How often do you strip your locks down for cleaning? It seems a PITA to do it after every session, but my lock and trigger group seem to get blasted with fouling very quickly.

Is it better to just rince, dry and oil the whole lock or disassemble it every time?

Rinse, dry and oil is better. What I do is take the lock off before shooting and liberally coat most of it in white lithium grease. Believe me - she ain't rusting after that, then I just do a thorough cleaning once per season or so.

For the most part I just wash in hot water, dewater and dry the lock and add oil for rust protection and for lube. Perhaps once every couple of years I might strip the lock to individual pieces and clean completely. Usually only because a rust spot or crudded area is developing
