One thing that a Mid-Length Gas System offers is the ability to run a short(er) handguard to expose a bit of Barrel towards the Muzzle end. It is mostly aesthetics, but good looks are important too!

Upper received a few months back. They added the dust cover free of charge (without mentioning it). The Gen 3 freebie BCG for the pre-order folks is still "ordered" for me but not shipped.

With regards to the Gen 3 upper.. mine is not usable out of the box. It was impossible to install the take down pins when trying to mate the gen 3 upper with a silver magwell / platinum lower. some clearance issues as the lower doesn't sit flush with the upper. Has anyone else been successful using a Gen 3 upper with any of the Silver magwell or any other lower setup?

There was one for sale on GP with Gen 3 upper, platinum lower, and silver magwell so I know it can be done.

I put the gen 3 upper on my platinum, the pins were super tight, took a bit of force to get them in

This tightness is common. You just need to sand it down a bit.
