Lockhart Tactical Raven - Does anyone actually have one or is it just social media po

There’s a new review out and the guy in the video received his Raven with a sheared side charging handle and no top charging handle. He had to use a spare that he had on hand just to get the rifle in working order out of the box.

Yes that was one of the videos I posted on the last page. Bats mentioned that he wasn’t sure if the charging handle came sheared off from the factory or if it happened at the retailer he purchased the rifle from.

He should have another video coming out soon speaking to his warranty experience and first impressions after taking the rifle to the range.

Firing pin is proprietary. It snapped at the shoulder, would prefer if it was a bit beefier. I suspect the tiny bit of play between the bolt face and bolt body is to blame for the break. Since I have no intention of ever shooting a pistol caliber that isn’t 9, I might try making a 1-piece bolt down the road.

A followup video from Bats with his first impressions after taking the Raven out to the range.

TLDR: Good first impressions, good responsiveness from Lockhart (Sam) and a few malfunctions during break-in.

He was also told that the 7.62 x 39 version was 4 weeks out. Another commenter said he was told that 300 blackout was 8 weeks out.

In a later Reddit post Bats indicates that he received a replacement for the side charging handle quickly with no hassles.

I haven’t heard of anyone who’s received a 556 version yet.

Edit: Lockhart dropped some photos on their Instagram. Apparently platinum packages of the 556 model will come with an adjustable gas system. A peek in their spare parts section of their website shows a skeletonized lightweight bolt carrier for the 556.

They say they are assembling the gas system right now but give no solid ETA on deliveries. Some of the dealers have ordered a number of the 556 platinum packages but they were not given an exact ETA either.

Redditor Severe-Increase492 posted some in the aluminum picture of his Lockart Raven 5.56https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/133fcpd/new_pew_who_dis/. Forgive my ignorance, but other then a swappable magwell to convert back to 9 mm and it having the option of side, rear, or both charging handles, how does this differ from the FRT shadow-banned ATRS or Maccabee offerings that use impingement against a Stoner-style internal piston BCG pushing against a recoil spring in a buffer tube? This does not appear to even have a dual-recoild spring 180-based receiver-internal recoil recovery system being impinged by gas, like a Jard J180. Is it because it began its lineage as a 9 mm? Could ATRS and/or Maccabee produce a similar 9mm and then use that as a basis for a 5.56 firearm? Regardless, hopefully the 5.56 Raven performs reliably and is fun to shoot!

I got an email from them that they have 556 package that can transform prohibited Ar15 to NR. How does it work if your AR15 has 12” barrel? Do you have to buy 18.6” barrel from LTAC as well?

99.9999999999999999% sure the answer is yes

Better buy a new gun, you cannot use the upper and lower receiver and barrel, so just internals, handguard, stock etc. I bet you end up around $2,000 or more. No point.

The Raven's FRT entry isn't based on a 180 variant, it's a proprietary operating system from what I can gather so it has it's own entry. As for why the Raven is considered NR and not "FRT prohib'd" like the Modern Sporters, who TF knows? Applying logic to firearms laws is not something the Lieberals do...

On Lockhart's website they are showing a 22LR belt fed concept? Interesting. Has anyone else done something like this before? https://lockharttactical.com/ravenbelt

Used to be a company called Lakeside Machine, that made a belt fed upper for AR called the razorback... It was a scaled down 1919 design. It was hit and miss if it worked. I never could go more than 15rds without it jamming. So not sure about this, but kind of expect it to be the same design.

Looks like they're starting to sell receiver sets with a bolt carrier. You'll still need your own gas key, gas block, bolt, barrel, buffer system, lower parts kit, trigger, etc As it' semi auto to maintain a non restricted status you'll need a barrel length of 470mm

If you don't already have a barrel that's long enough you can buy one from anywhere not just LTAC.

Looks like a builders kit would allow you to avoid as many Lockhart parts as possible.

Castle nut looks stupid, mystery adjustable gas block sounds like bad news, handguard looks suspect to me aka designed for looks, and I do not like one bit that the take down pin is all that retains it, fake raptor looking charging handle AND it's proprietary length, gas key doesn't look staked at all.

Good, controls appear to be a decent design even if mostly proprietary, fit and finish looks alright.

I'd sure rather have ATRS still making rifles and maybe evolving into an ambi lower.

great review. i like everything but the handguard - that will get loose after a few on/offs. and lockhart - probably a chinese drop-ship airsoft scam of some sort ...
