Lockhart Tactical Raven Platinum Edition, .223 Wylde

I've noticed that the recent hand guards are clamped onto the barrel nut eliminating any play. Does anyone know when they changed that? I'm assuming that it is an improvement. Curious if people usually purple/blue loctite these?

What do you guys think of the RDSC custom Lockhart Raven? Is it worth $3,299.99?

I am just building a Raven and their upgraded one is a fair price, as long as you like their parts. The BCM parts they are using are all good quality, but if you want to customize the stock, buffer, grip etc. don’t bother.

It is costing me closer to $3800 (without including the cost of the trigger, which I already had), but I enjoyed picking my barrel, muzzle device, handguard, buffer system, safety etc. Plus you still need to get a gunsmith to stake the gas key properly and need a vice to torque your barrel down etc.

The plain Raven for $2,049 is a steal, as it’s only $400 more than the builders kit and you need to spend way more than that to build one. Add a new barrel for $300 if you don’t find the stock one ideal.

Just bought a new raven off of gun post. Looking forward to it coming in next week. Will update round count reviews. Can’t wait

She’s here! Can’t wait to shoot, what was everyone’s “click” setting in their gas blocks

PSA produced a video on how to tune their Jakl's adjustable gas block. They have fewer adjustments levels, but if you use four clicks instead of two for gross adjustment, and then fine tune from there the described procedure should also work:

200 rounds down the pipe. 0 issues. 14 clicks on the block was my sweet spot. Love this thing, performs great can’t say enough good things right off the bat. (I came from a Templar that was a headache)

Another really positive thing for me with Lockhart… emailed to ask about a question regarding gas block adjustment, samuel called me within 3 mins of me sending the email….

Coming from a Templar, if I asked for some help, I might hear back 3 weeks later.

Did anyone get a Gen 2 latching charge handle? It said May 8 they were available to order. May 8 I go to order one and it says May 10 they are available. First thing this morning it said May 10 but you couldn’t order yet. Now I just see it says sold out.

I picked up a blem unit a couple of weeks ago. It is a definite improvement overr the Gen 1 Charging Handle, but that's about it. The Left Sde is not as long nor pronounced as he Right Side, which seems odd. Good news for Left Handed firers hoewever....

I haven't read through 36 pages, but is it correct that the take down pins can just fall out, walking with it in the bush? The OP mentioned to keep spares in the pistol grip. That's kind of unacceptable IMHO.

I have to tap mine out with an Allen key… way to tight.

No, not in my personal experience. The pins have retaining spring clips which hold the pins securely in their holes. Anybody carrying spares is over-thinking the problem IMHO...

You would never have an issue. Spring held in and you need something to tap them out

LOL, you recommended doing so in your original post. I suppose that was first impressions before starting to use it.

- Non-Captive Push-Pins easily lost in the field (carry spares in Pistol Grip)

You are correct - I was initially concerned that the pins could/would walk out of their holes on their own accord under recoil, or what have you. That would leave you with a non-functional rifle in the field, which is generally unacceptable. However, with a bit of experience with the Takedown Pins I can safely state that the design is sufficiently robust with the Retention Springs that the Pins cannot walk out. They have to be deliberately removed, making their accidental loss in the field a consequence of human error, vice mechanical or design failure.

I honestly don't think that there is an absolute "correct answer" to the question of critical spare parts carriage afield. In my opinion, it is a personal choice and in some cases may be context-driven. A SHTF/TEOWAKI/NRL situation is going to have different requirements than a typical, relaxed day at the rifle range, right? In the first instance, you definitely want to carry critical spare parts such as a spare Bolt (complete), Firing Pin, Firing Pin Retention Pin, and specific to the Raven, one (or 2) of the removable Takedown Pins. In the second situation you may have those parts on-hand in your Range Bag, or not. Either way, the success of your Range trip probably doesn't hinge on having those spares and even if it does, it is not a matter of life and death.

Whether or not you choose to carry a spare Takedown Pin (or Pins) during your recreational use of the Raven is entirely up to you. Nobody is going to suffer or die if you lose a Pin without a spare, so who really cares? If you have storage in your Pistol Grip or Buttstock, why not carry a spare? Better safe than sorry. Even better yet, modify your stock to securely hold the pins in holes during disassembly so that they cannot get lost (like an HK G3). There is more than one way to address the spare Takedown Pin storage/carriage issue if you think about it.

At the end of the day, we are expending far too many brain cells and bandwidth discussing this particular issue! Unless it is a life or death situation? It doesn't really matter if you choose to carry a spare Takedown Pin or not, however if you have the ability to carry a spare somewere on/in the rifle, then why not?
