Well,

After reading a lot on here about the Raven, jumped in yesterday. They have more stock on line if you are interested. Now the wait begins. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I test-fired my 9" .300 Blk Upper with a Pistol-length gas system. Reliability was 100% once I tuned the rifle, however I decided to keep my Raven NR and have parked the Shorty Upper for the foreseesable future...

Found one concern with with my Raven today. In 600 rounds (3 cleans) today I took it apart and did an oil and air compressor test to check if my key was leaking which I have heard can be an issue. I did the test and found that the front of my gas key had a leak (check the torque of the bolts it was right. So I took it apart and put a layer of permatex aviation gasket maker between the key and the BCG.

The only reason I checked today was because out of the 600 rounds I’ve shot I had my first malfunction, which was the bolt didn’t stay open on my last round, as if it were under gassed which it’s not. Besides that it’s been running like a champ, just one hiccup that I hope I caught and solved fast.

Thoughts? I’ve done my research and have found lots of guys on AR15 pages using the permatex on their AR’s

I've never used a specific gasket or sealant material and never had an issue. Torque, stake and shoot it. Carbon will seal any minuscule gaps, and if not, there are bigger issues at play, imho.
In a pinch one can throw down a smear of the same thread locker that are used on the fastener threads, but to go buy aviation gasket specifically for this application? nope. Obviously ymmv.

Hard no from me, aviation gasket maker is for making aviation gaskets. I don't think you can properly check the torque of bolts that have been staked, breakaway and tightening torque don't always line up either.

Some high tiered AR manufacturers use it to help prevent gas key leaks.

I finally got my Raven out to the range yesterday and was able to put about 300 rounds through it. No issues, no hiccups with the rifles function. The only gripes are that my Cross mags do not drop as freely as I would like them to. Gas system ran fine, 15 clicks.
You forget that you are shooting a raven and just feel like you are shooting an AR all over again.
I have owned most of the 180s on the market and they all just felt so crappy and poorly thought out. Shooting the Raven just felt so natural and so... right.
