Lockhart Tactical - Underbarrel 12G Shotgun - RELEASE

Here is our updated design for our UBS-12 Buttstock.

I know we are changing it every day, but I think every revamp has major improvements.

Here is what this update shows.

1) Manufacturing pockets (like would be needed for our slide out tray design) takes FAR more time and tooling changes than drilling out tubes like shown below.
What this means for you, is a better price

2) We would have between 4 and 6 tubes as we have not yet decided.

What this means for you:
- 4x tubes will be slightly less bulk in the center, but we're talking less than 1 inch in vertical difference between 4 and 6 tubes.. But would remove the chance to carry up to 6 shells without the extra 2 tubes.
- With 6 tubes, although the stock will be just under 1" taller in that section (Overall height and size stays the same no matter which amount of tubes).
- Keep in mind that when NO shells are loaded into the tubes, the stock is hollowed out as much as possible. Ensuring this is super light weight for you.

What can you put in the tubes?
Small flashlights,
Fire starters and Lighters or small amounts of tinder
Batteries,
Small knives or tools
Paracord
A roll of pennies for those of you who don't like to leave home without them? ;)

The list goes on!
Having these tubes available keeps the stock LIGHTWEIGHT, yet still useful for a very wide range of clients.

Having separate tubes also allows you to separate your shells
Buck Shot
Bird Shot
Slugs
Breaching Rounds

and still have two other tubes for anything you like

I like the stick idea with storage. Would most likely use the firearm as a stand alone shotgun and it sounds like a neat survival gun. Maybe I'll put it on my little badger hahaa
 
While all the 'fancy' stuff is a great option, a plain Jane locking folder set up, to take a buffer tube (works well w/ Endine buffers, and mil spec stocks) and AR pistol grip would work far better. Add a top pic rail, integral w/ the back end, and good to go.
If this is to 'plain', then maintaining receiver'back end compatibility' w/ Rem after market pieces (Mesa/ Mako/ FAB, etc) would be strongly preferred..

Can;t, as we need a butt stock fixed and a certain length to keep it Non Restricted.

No problem- forgot about that 'folded length' clause...
As long as the back end of the receiver stays OEM compliant (Rem/ Dom Arms), I'll be GTG, w/ standard aftermarket stocks/ pistol grips. Moving away from this would be a non starter for me (though I'll keep the one on order, as it's just to cool to pass up..!).
 
I like simple.
Your version in post #211 is the one I like most.
Without the pistol grip would be even better. One less thing hanging down in the way.
The way Magpul makes their shotgun stocks seems like the best compromise between pistol grip and traditional stock. The angle they use on the grip feels great.
You could skeletonize the body of it or make a version that has storage.

Looking at the design....could you incorporate a rail for sights into the detachable stock? That way it is all in one once you clip your barrel/receiver on. Or storage in the stock for a sight like a burris fastfire.
 
We have a new update on the UBS-12 Mount / QD buttstock Connection.

Before we were going to have dual vertical pins located in the UBS-12 Mount. The QD buttstock would have had dual locking buttons / cam systems in place that would have hooked the vertical pins.
This would have looks pretty darn cool, however would have driven up production costs as the tiny metal parts would be harder to produce. As far as ease of attachment, it would have been more challenging to do than our new system. The dual vertical pin system may have been prone to failure with dirt and debris. Field cleaning may have also proven to be difficult in case the need arose.

Our new system will use a more battle proven design. We'll have 3 sided curved dovetail. This will index the stock into the receiver quickly and easily. When under stress (in the black) or when fine motor skills are limited (freezing cold), this movement will still be easy to accomplish. If water, dirt or other debris obstructed the two pieces from mating, cleaning could be done using a simple instrument such as a knife, sharp small stick or such that can be found around you. Remember the buttstock can also fit cleaning tools and more!

Once you slide the buttstock into the UBS-12's dove tail, a spring loaded lock would snap into place in the horizontal slot seen in the picture. The connection should prove to be fast, easy to use, secure and rattle free.

If for SOME REASON the connection ever did fail, instead of the two halfs being useless, the shotgun would still be fully use able.

This is due to the direction upon which the QD buttstock slides up into the shotgun. When the buttpad in in your should and you're holding pistol grip, the weight of the UBS-12 would push down on the buttstock's matching dovetail (keeping the connection together), vs if we built the mount with the dovetail facing down, the shotgun would have wanted to fall off.

We're really trying to think about every aspect and angle.

We want to keep costs as reasonable as possible, and ensure our product is the best out there.
