Loctite for scope mount screws? Yes - No

I will try out the blue. But there seems to be a bit of play in the screws for recoil wear. Will have go see how it bonds.

The main issue is how the mount base sits. Being a Yugoslav refurbished K98 the recover has been scrubbed. It has a major concave to it so the base does not sit completely flat. It will have to be bedded.

Oi, this is going to take some work and I have no expirience using JB weld. I hope I can get a gunsmith to take a look at it before hunting season. Otherwise...
 
Necessity and the need to improvise is the mother of invention. I have used nail polish that I steal\borrow from my wife's inventory for years. It has worked great as I have never had anything loosen in 40+years. Holds the screws firmly but you can still remove them if needed. Why make this more complicated than it needs to be.
 
Nail polish works fine as does Loctite Blue for final install after bedding (I use degreaser or Isopropyl alcohol on the screws to remove grease) ,,,

Bed the bases to receiver with devcon or AcraGel ... personally (when I have done this which is seldom) I wax the receiver (or use a release agent if you have it.. also on the base mounting screws) so that the bedding material doesn't adhere there. Clean the bases ..and let the bedding stick to them. Set the bases up with even torque and wipe off the larger amounts of expressed bedding immediately but dont disturb the release agent .... presumably you are using a single piece base (easier to accommodate uneven receivers) in which case seat (and torque) the "high end" and do not tighten the "low end" of the base to the receiver till the epoxy is dry...pretty obvious. If the screws are "loose" when threaded into the receiver this needs to be fixed before the rest of the process ... and locktite in any colour is not the ideal answer. Either check for proper size screws or retap and go to the next size up .... IMHO
 
I use red on mounts and nothing on rings. Never have a problem getting them apart, providing that Torx or flat-head screws are used. Allen head screws like to strip even when used with nothing but are thankfully mostly a thing of the past.

Get a good torque screwdriver. You can't under tighten or strip the screws if you use the proper torque specs. I've got a Wiha 10-50 in/lbs on the way. I'ts also good for tightening action screws which can affect shot to shot consistency.
 
I've always used blue as its available most hardware or automotive stores. It's cheap, works well and keeps you out of the doghouse for messing with the wife's nail polish. lol. However, less is more. A dab will do ya' Making sure the fasteners are properly torqued is what will really set your mounting apart from the rest. Small fasteners strip easily and tight for you isn't necessarily the same as my definition of tight or snug. Torquing also distributes the forces of recoil evenly through the firearm to the scope.
