What is the best solvent for removing dried loctite from the top of an action--former owner got quite generous and these is a lot of overflow on the top of the action--I would like to remove it as I will be running the rifle without a scope for a while.

Thanks, 44Bore

Arborite makes a good hard plastic scrapper....and they give away free color samples at the hardware store that are about the right size!

Well thats quite a drive for a coke bottle filled with MEK! lol! I ve used heat, solvents, nailpolish remover and good old fasioned scaping with a plasic scrapper, all work. I reccomend taking the fire arm down to its little bits and pieces, use this as an oppertunity to do a really good cleaning.

Thanks for the suggestions--do not want to heat or scrape though --is a valuable collectors firearm and I don't want to compromize the finish.

Regards, 44Bore

Please use MEK very very carefully.

It is a high end carcinogenic - gloves as suggested and be careful with breathing it in. Do not use in confined spaces (or even in the house)

It always depends of the type of loctite. Here I have Blue, and two type of red 260 regular one and 2760 HD one, boy the HD one you have to use torch for it
