I'm doing my CFSC/CRFSC/HO at crumlin sports club in a couple weeks. I'm sure they'll want me to join.

I've never heard anything but good things about EESA, and have heard very little information about crumlin.

Thoughts/opinions? I prefer the objective ones, but subjective is just as important I guess
thanks,

AL

They are a FUDD club...

Ready for SOME of the rules?

- NO standing to shoot your rifles...sitting at a bench only
- You must shoot SLOWLY...even if you can shoot rapidly and still conntect on target...I was removed from this club for shooting my BOLT ACTION .22LR TOO FAST...
- Only 5 rounds allowed in a gun at a time...yea really!
- Pistol shooting is only done at a fixed 15 and 25 yard ranges
- They LOVE thier skeet and trap...and you are basically stuck in the rifle range if/when skeet is going on.
- paper targets only

I once stood at the end of their road...waving my arms in the air above my head at them to be given the green light to pass and to have them stop shooting so we can walk by(even tho its a safe path, I was trying to follow club rules!)...they saw me, look up many times and did nothing to let me pass. I stood there for 55mins. I then finally decided just to walk and was screamed at and yelled at for not having a car to drive by with as well.

They like to stand past the firing line, with their hearing protect off to shoot the s**t for 40mins as your waiting to shoot your rifle and your treated like the jerk for wanting to shoot and interupt them talking.

Some like to set up ALL their reloading gear and gun smithing gear up and take up 95% of the bench space.

I could go on and on...

I am only 20 years old and can't afford $5,000.00 trap guns....but I guess thats my fault. Some of the rudest people I have ever met in my life was at the club.

EESA = a GREAT CLUB. PM Strombringer on CGN here....he can set you up with a tour and tons of info on joining if your interested.

I went with a friend as a guest a little while ago. We are into black rifles and handguns.
He has a 9mm carbine and was told he could shoot on the outdoor pistol range and paid the 40 bucks for the holders. There was a director finishing up, he told me that I had to take my holster off. I asked him waht credentials were needed and he said that holsters are not needed and are not acceptable. Im like well thats too bad. I mentioned that this must be mainly a trap club....he said no that there is alot of handgunners etc. I put the holster away.

Couple days later my friend gets a nasty email about having a restricted firearm at the range and having no ATT (Beretta Storm with Custom NR Barrel). He said all Storms are restricted and to contact him ASAP to settle this as we are breaking many laws. He also said that he should not have brought me with my restricted handgun because he did not have a restricted license so he would not be able to coach me.

Clearly this guy was out to lunch. If there was any question about the status of my friends gun he should have come up to us and ask us for the cert to prove it rather than send a nasty email few days later and accuse us of breaking the law. a email gets back explaining the whole thing.

A week later he gets another nasty email from this same director or whatnot that he had sometime and and emailed the specs on the storm "proving" its restricted and to come to the next meeting or else.

He goes talks to someone else and he is on board with the whole conversion to NR so now thats not a problem. He was told he cant shoot it at the pistol range but the rifle range. He is pissed because he wants to shoot at closer distances with his 9mm carbine with EO Tech. He drove 30 mins to also pic up the 40 refund which they did not have at the time.

This place is a sideshow for anyone who is into black rifles and handguns. Only lead bullets at the indoor range. No rapid shooting, no steel gongs, shooting from sitting, no holsters, no IPSC/ IDPA. Good luck trying to leave that freakin place.....god forbid they have to stop shooting trap.

Its clearly a trap club which has opened up its doors to everyone else because they need a bigger member base do to operating costs and they make you feel that way.

EESA is where its at and frankly worth the drive!!!

Hope this helps you make your decesion.

Was there one time with my Brother-in-law. We were on the rifle range. There was no trap shooting going on when we were there; so we had no issues getting in and out.

My general feeling when leaving was one of being unimpressed compared to many other clubs that I have been too.

I have never been to Crumlin. However, while hanging out at the lovely, wonderful, laid-back, with it, and absolutely all embracing (trap, Sr. rifle, Jr. Rifle, Archery, Jr. Archery, IPSC, IDPA, Bullseye, Cowboy Action etc.) EESA, which also happens to host some of the very best events (competitions, Open House, many smaller events), I have heard many an ex-Crumlin member or visitor share the negative opinions expressed here. So I would suggest EESA is the place for you. Not that I'm biased ;).

I'm a member at Crumlin and would agree with opinions expressed so far. Having said that, the facilities are pretty decent and I have found it suits my needs. It's 15 mins away for me vs. 45 mins for EESA. It is definitely a Fudd club that's run like a club with 20 members when in reality they have more like 500. I'd rather be a member at EESA all things considered but it's good enough if you are close.

Having just joined Crumlin I can definately see where people are coming from. That being said, I have yet to experience anything negative. The night that I have been going on, no one has been shooting skeet, nor have they been shooting trap on the first few lanes, so the road going to the rifle range is clear. The nights Ihave been shooting rifle, only one or two other members were in the range, and the majority of the time we had the rifle range to ourselves. While sharing the range, the other members were polite, and had no problems with space or going down the line, waiting, etc. I have my rpal, but no handguns currently, so I cant comment on that portion, but I can tell you there is always plenty members shooting on the nights I've been. As Dave mentioned, it suits my needs as well. It's on my way home from work, and 10 mins from my house. Igot my Dad to join at the same time, as he hasn't shot in years and he is enjoying it.

The excessive rules do suck, but the easy convenience factor does make up for it. It's nice being able to commute home from work, pick up my old man and jet out to the range for an hour or two and make it home at a decent time. I simply couldn't do that with a 45 minute drive, so I get alot more use this way. Like Dave said, for the time being it suits my needs.

when searching for my first club to join i checked out crumlin. after talking to one of the fuds there and telling them what i intend to shoot he pretty much told me to f**k off in a nice way and go somewhere else to shoot and i quote because "my kind of firearms arnt wanted there." Crumlin = Fudd Paradise.

E.S.S.A. is uber cool club.

Is there a website or address for this club? Im gonna be moving to London around mid december - jan 1st and i was gonna go to crummlin but all i own is evil restricted baby killers.
How far is it away from downtown ? im only 18 and i dont own a car as of yet.

CFO approved a range in which you can be downrange while on a road? Am I missing something?

Using a mac trackpad on an online paint program is difficult but i tried my best haha;

You've got your skeet and trap fields infront of your rifle ranges. The ranges have little rusting ugly roof with holes in it from morons who managed to shoot up into the roof?

When people are shooting on the fields you can hear the ping ping of them landing on the roof, non lethal but still... i agree with previous opinions, if you can go to EESA, go.

There in particular is one older man who brings just about everything but his kitchen sink. He takes up half of the shelf that's on the wall and takes FOREVER reloading his flippin rounds, is there for about 2-3 hours at a time and shoots about 15 shots. its painful, avoid him because he doesn't listen if you want to go downrange either

Edit: Here's a google maps version to supplement my paint photo ;)

This may be grossly inaccurate without a sense of scale for the distances involved, but that don't look safe to me.
