Lone Wolf Barrel for Glock 17

Those are not rumours they are solid truth. Should you wish proof, all you have to do is get a copy of "The Glock in Competition." Various chapters are dedicated to not using lead in factory barrels and the consquences.
You can see for yourself. Its all documented there with pictures and text.

Consequences.?.....Re-loaders can a snobby lot....If something goes wrong, then it "must be the gun"....."these things never happen to me"....Yak, yak.....I`ve seen Glock Ka-Booms (notably the Glock 22), and when pushed, prodded, interrogated, it all has come down to re-loading over-extended brass and using too high pressures.....Many people just do not want to admit they screwed up....There are far too many myths and rumors concerning Glock blow-ups...I`ve seen 1911`s go Ka-Boom as well as other semi-auto`s....

"are several experts"...

Rifling does not tear lead from bullets, it engraves the bullet. You need a class or two on ballistics and firearms theory. If anyone is spouting "internet hyperbole" (my word, not yours) it is you and not I.

Whatever - I have personally blown up or seen blown up 3 Glocks, 2 x .40 cal and 1 x .45, and all with lead. All were utilizing powder that made double charging the case impossible and all were shooting lead. But your experience (probably with one pistol) is obviously greater than mine. You will also note that I stated in my post that you need to clean, and more diligently (that means lots) if you wish to assume the risk of shooting lead...

from my post - "there are numerous instances of Gocks of any caliber KBooming because lead was used and the barrel was not properly cleaned"...

blake

Somehow I don't see any 9mm pistols in this mix which is precisely what is being discussed.

I'm definately no expert on this.

My experiance is with a freind and his g21 using swc cast.As the spent case is being extracted it can shave some lead off the next round or deform it which can result in that round not chambering.

He found that the shape of the bullet was important.but not always a %100 fix.Using jacketed bullets was the fix.

This was with the G21 at any rate.I am expecting my (new to me G17 ) any day.

Cast Bullets; again, I am not any sort of expert on this, but, I do have some experience casting and loading these.

The velocities have to be kept down.Too much preasure behind the bullet will lead it to leading. the base of the bullet will push outwards into the rifling increasing friction at higher preasures. gas checks( a copper disk pressed onto the base ) allow you use higher pressures on cast bullets by stopping this. The bullet mould has to allow for gas checks in order to use them.

KEEP in MIND, if you reload, or shoot factory reloaded ammo, Stay away from wolfe unless you have a gunsmith, "open" the chamber back to service size (like a stock glock barrell)

They barrell chamber is underspec a bit, and feeds great, tight and accurate with new Factory ammo. I know this, I own 2X wolfe barrells for glock.

That being said, I love the porting in the barell and its incredible more accurate. Also i can now shoot lead all day no worries. And would not hesitate to buy another.

just a fyi.
