Long Barrel Marlins, unknown and unappreciated!

i just got a new marlin guide gun, the one with the 18.5" barrel. i shot it last saturday using winchester expanders at 400 grain and some remmy hollow-points at 325. i found that for acuracy it liked the hotter loads. although im only sighting in my scope for 75 yards. at 75 teh 400 grain got 1 1/2 and 3" high groups at 50 yards. the 325 grain shot low at 50 yards and had a 4 inch group.

but the groups size is probably affected my my experience lvl wich is low.

keep on blasting!:sniper::shotgun::dancingbanana::wave::D

Holy walnut batman... that is some serious figure on that Marlin. As far as the difference between the long and short barrels I really don't know... but I would like to do some chrony comparisons with both. All I know for sure is the long barrels are accurate as hell at ridiculous ranges.

For what it's worth.. my first rifle was a lever and my last will be the same.

so who has a long barreled marlin? i got the short one. speak up and lets start the testing:cheers::stirthepot2::rockOn:

Helped you at the range last weekend. I had my marlin there with a long barrel. I posted a link earlier in this thread to my XLR .444 Excellent groupings with 3 shot groups right out of the box. Three bullets touching is normal.

I have a thing for Marlins,
I have a Model 444 with 22" pipe. I also have a nice 444P with 18.5" pipe
Great guns. Buying another 45-70 in the next week or two. I have the Stainless Guide Gun in 45-70, now it's time for the longer barreled version. I have a really nice one lined up. I would like to sell one of my gun's first though. NO! NOT the Marlin.

That shoulder is startin' to feel a lot better is it ???
Next thing you know, you'll be takin' up Sporting Clays serious like ! :D

A buddy managed a very commendable boiler-room shot on
a moose with one of those. I was quite impressed. Nice gun
and nice round ... with proper bullets.

I took mine out to the range tonight, with the idea of trying IMR 3031 under a Hornady 350.
53 grains put the rounds into an inch at 50 yards from kneeling in the big 1886. Recoil, while certainly noticeable, was not close to bone crunching.
I must go better prepared next time. Didn't chronograph it or anything. Must be gettin' old or something.

Sounds like these long bbl lever guns are really the ducks guts.
Tell me, has anyone ever seen a lever gun, in 444, 45-70, 375 Win or whatever, with a 26" or even 28" bbl?

The 375 is out there by winchester not sure of bbl length. Check Winchester collectors then hang onto your master card.

28"??
This is my Winchester 1886 Custom rifle in 45-70, beside a standard '94 Winchester. It's quite a handful.

Back to the 444, and a bit of a side issue, but at the gun show in Duncan today I lucked into about half a plastic icecream bucket of 444 brass:D. I'm good for quite q while now.
