Long Branch Jungle Carbine prototype- NOW WITH PICS

Typically things like this languish in someone's basement and are never seen by anyone. It's not easy to convince someone to let you take pictures, let alone put them up on the internet.
Since you've had Milsurps.com up, some really great photosets have been put up showing previously mythological rifles in great detail. Really good stuff.

The serial numbers on the bolt handle and buttsocket are original. I have pics of them and looked at them closely in person. The owner did not want them posted on the internet, thus my Microsoft Paint efforts to obscure them sadly :(.

There is no filing, and I know very well what that looks like. The finish on the rifle is undisturbed at the s/n area. The s/n is a drawing number or contract number or similar. (no L in the normal Long Branch scheme of things) Receiver and bolt handle numbers match.

Picture of Prototypes and Special projects from pattern room at LB

During WW2 while Holland was occupied, a number of the Dutch Royal Family members including the future Queen lived in Canada.

During 1943, and again in 1945 there were visits to Long Branch and apparently in '45 the current Queen's sister and her entourage were shown products made at Long Branch including some prototypes and special projects as we were doing things in preparation of fighting the war in the East.

Holland, having a number of protectorates in the Far East that needed to be liberated from the Japanese, were very interested in the support Canada was begining to be more focusd on.

The second rifle in (past the training rifle) is a Long Branch made Jungle Carbine!

We can also drool about the other rifles and LB made wood products in the pic.

I wish I knew more and had access to more pics but this one is pretty cool.

Great pic 6167!! So glad to see this!

Note the recoil pad...same as in my pics. It sticks out almost as far as the steel part. Not at all like the Brit version.

Also note on the LB Jungle Carbine, the mid band is the milled early round profile band, while on the Brit versions it looks to be the later flat band.
Note that in 6167's pic you can clearly see that the band is milled/round!

This is the Rosetta Stone from the LB Pattern Room. OUTSTANDING !!

I had a chance to buy one many years ago from Military Art & Antiques on Yonge St. At that time, it was $500. The information I got was this: 30 were made as a trial rifle for a proposed special forces para regiment. It was believed that 27 were destroyed, 1 went to the War Museum, and 2 were in private hands. If you want to know if yours is real, see if the War Museum curator will send you pics of theirs or let you see it if you're in Ottawa. I do know that the one I missed on was sold for $1200. back in 1985.

Philip Baron Ennis. remember the store well. His partner Dave was still running a Militaria shop on Yonge St in Oak Ridges back in the early 00s.
