I am searching for information on the makers' marks stamped on the upper left corner of these sights, to the left of the elevation adjusting screw head. I have 1 91L 1950 LB no. 4 which has CAL stamps on the rifle, similar to my 95L LB No. 4. However, the correct sight for this vintage (91L) would be the C Mk 3 pinch-slider CAL-marked sight as exists on the 95L, rather than the Mark 1 Singer-type sight which is on the 91L sight.
The sight on the 91L has a very large battle sight aperture, similar to the one on my Fazakerley No. 4 Mk. 2. I do have a LB Singer-type sight in my toolbox, but its battle sight aperture is small, the same size as the sliding aperture on the CMk 3 CAL sight on the 95L. Is it true that the LB battle sight apertures on Mk 1 and 3 adjustable sights were small-aperture only? If so, then I suspect the large-aperture battle sight of the 91L's Mk 1 Singer sight marks that sight as a British one, and I will replace it with the LB Mark 1 small-aperture sight in the tool box.
The above may seem confusing, but all help appreciated. The Singer sight currently on the 91L is not finished as well as the LB or Fazakerley sights, and I cannot decipher the maker's stamp.
