Hello, I recently found a long branch with some markings on the front/upper band. If anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them... No idea how to post a picture of it. It has N79 and also MB13. I was told this rifle was used by a winnipeg soldier, may explain MB13 but I cannot find any reference of numbers on the upper band.

Thanks.

MB13 is very unlikely to be anything to do with Manitoba; N79 is a British manufacturer's code. Your rifle isn't all Long Branch.

There's a tutorial on how to post pics on the site. Without pictures, I think they are just the manufacturers marks and they sound like they're English parts. Pics of the rifle with close ups of the markings will get you lots of responses from those in the know. There's a sticky on the Lee Enfields on this site also, and that will answer a lot of your questions. Do the serial numbers match on the bolt and the receiver? That's a big one. Is it full military stocked? That's another big consideration. If you have a mix of English and Canadian parts, it may be a restored sporter or it could be a British FTR job. Take some time on the site to do some research and you may find many of your answers. If you're really stuck in getting pictures up, send me a PM and I'll send you my email addy. You can send me pics and I can share what information I have, or if you're in the GTA, we can meet up. Lots of luck.

As Tiriaq said, you have a British band.
