Just picked up a nice Gunsite in .308 and now looking to add a "Scout" scope for general use, hunting to at most 200 yards, range work and such. Will use QR rings, either Leupold or Burris ( any other suggestions ?? ). Thinking of a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 "Scout". Any comments, suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a Leupold FX-II Scout IER 2.5x28mm scope on my .358 Winchester BLR. Brightness and clarity are quite good. I find the magnification to be sufficient out to ~200 meters on Moose.

I've been looking around for a while for an IER scope for my guide gun ( old eyes ) , this scope looks to be about perfect . How do you find it works in low light ?

Nice rifle by the way , I'm putting together a 358 Win on a savage short action . Rembo barreled it up for me about a month back . The 358 is one of my favorite cartridges .

My Vortex Diamondback (next step up) failed on my 375 Ruger. My Leopold VX3 on a 375H&H just finished a week of hunting because it has continued to work. A Crossfire might not be what will work for you.

I made the same post. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...-Best-scout-scope-Mounting-on-a-ruger-gunsite

A couple of people chimed in with some great info. a 7x scout scope would be difficult to aquire a target quickly, which totally deminishes the reason for a scout scope. I run the leupold on mine and it's held zero and people LOVE shooting it. I love shooting it. Great cross hair on it (at 200 no problem. My eyes suck so 300 is stretching it for me. But 100 seems like no magnification yet you can see your shot clear as day). I want another for my m305 and wanted to go vortex bu still looking for a good deal on another leupold.

Beleive me you pretty much have 4 options that are readily available

Leupold 2.5 400-500$
Vortex 2-7. 230$
Weaver 4x 250-350$ ( I wouldn't pay over 250 myself not with the vortex around and that warranty)

And the Burris whatever. I've never looked into it because it's more expensive then the leupold and without the same warranty. That easily knocks it out oof the running. (Just my opinion. And last I checked was years ago. They may have better warranty now. Leupold has a no questions asked forever type)

I had to use vortex warranty once and I was not pleased. They sent me a different scope back and basically shrugged their shoulders at me. They are nice. They take calls. Just hope they don't ever discontinue your scope. They will downgrade your scope if needing replacing, not upgrade, they don't do that in the states ... trust me I called. Lol.
