Has anyone ever heard of a Winchester 670? It's a bolt action rifle very simillar to the Model 70, but without a magazine or a floor plate. My friend had one in 30-06. He's done some research and found out they sold from the late 60's to the mid 80's. They have wood stocks.

He's looking for a synthetic stock for it, and possibly a conversion to either a floor plate, or a mag, so he doesn't have to cycle the rounds through the bolt when unloading. I've checked the big sites (Bass Pro, LeBaron,) and browsed through some of the featured sponsor sites, but haven't found anything.

Anyone out there with any experience sourcing synthetic stocks for hard to find guns? Can you tell me if it's hard to convert from no mag/floor plate to either?

Thanks

I had a 670 in 30-06 years ago, until I lost it and a bunch of money in a poker game.:( (and I thought I'd repressed that memory:runaway:) As far as I can tell it was a Model 70 without the floorplate, metal polish and housed in a birch stock with impressed checkering. It shot Winchester 180 grain factory loads like it had eyes too.
The bright side is the whole experience took away any thoughts I may have had of being a professional gambler.:D As life lessons go, that was a cheap one.
