I have a BSA MkI* 1902. that I'm working on restoring to it's former glory. Originally the forestock was cut down and broken and in rough shape. The original buttstock is still alright but I replaced the stock completely so it would match. Unfortunately, I don't know a heck of a lot about Long Lees. Detailed pictures are hard to find. I need to know what parts I'm still missing in order to complete the project.

I found a professionally repaired stock that is nicely refinished. I found the clearing rod and magazine and top wood. It has the volley sights and magazine cutoff. So far, I believe all that is missing is the endcap, the stock band and sling swivels. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Here it is in pictures:

I've place an ad in the EE for the missing parts.

The rear sight adjustment bar is loose and won't stay in place when adjusted and standing upright. Is there a remedy? Is it missing something?

It really needs an endcap badly!!!

Is the magazine correct?

Detail showing the stock fusion repair, quite a good job really.

Wow congrats on that rebuild that's looking great thus far. Hope you find the rest of the bits. I have heard that these guys might be able to help there, but I have also heard of troubles in contacting them, best of luck.

The only reason I could see the rear sight will not stand, would be a damaged or missing leaf spring. I will post a pic of my MLE's rear sight for you tonight.

Also I found that the foresight on mine is dramatically canted to the left, and as these are non-adjustable I'm wondering if this is the norm? I''ll post a picture of that too and if you could compare it to yours and tell me if this is the case with yours as well I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is a pic of the site, you can see the leaf spring in place from the end.

Also if you would be as so kind, is your front sight center aligned or off to one side like this?

This is my front sight. It appears more centered than yours but the base looks a little more machined on the right side. I think the post itself is pretty close to being dead center though. Is it the post that's off on yours or is it the base or both maybe?

The adjustable bar that the pen is holding up will not stay on the desired range.

As soon as you remove pressure holding it up it drops. I can't make out this part of the sight in your picture clearly enough for comparison.

Sorry I thought you meant the ladder itself. The horizontal appears to simply be held in place by friction. Just squeezing the mount tighter would be my guess as there is no spring mechanism.

I was just told on another forum that that my sight post (yes it is the post) is normal for early MLM and MLE's (mine is an 1897 mkI) to counteract drift due to odd left hand twist. That said modern commercial ammo may not drift as much either, So I may have to play around with it when it gets back from the gunsmith for the muzzle, crown and perhaps a counter bore. Thanks.

That's interesting about your front sight. Great, thanks for the photos and info. It must just need a pinch to tighten it.

My MLM has the post way off to the side as well. It also shoots horrible with any loads I've tried so far. 6" groups at 100m are the norm. The stock has been cut back soI've been told the unsupported barrel could effect bullet impacts. Trigger clears at 9 or 10lbs.

Good for you on your restoration project. Look forward to seeing the finished product.:)
