Long range 22LR

Why is that iffy? Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy and if you're concerned that it is a stock barrel, well, I'm sure they managed to manufacture a few "better-than-average" ones and it looks like I got one. :)

The barrel is free-floated and the receiver and trigger group are from a 10/22T which probably helps to account for the better-than-average accuracy as well.

I don't normally keep my targets as I've never had to "prove" myself before, but I guess - you don't know me from "Adam" so I guess I don't blame you for not trusting me. I'll try to remember to take video and stills from my next day at the range so I can show you.

:D

PS - I tried to add a few extra smileys so you'd feel more comfortable reading my post! :D

That's already "iffier" ;) , accuracy-wise  , depending on the model (esp. some levers :D).....:yingyang:

Well cyclone, :yingyang: I went out to the range today and brought my camera to document my 100 yard shots. :sniper: I went for two 5 shot groups. I made one just under 2" w:h: but the other one was around 3.5" or so... it was really bad. One of the shots looks like it keyholed which is really weird as I've never had that happen before. I'm thinking that was an issue with the ammo as I shot 100+ rounds after and it it did just fine. :ar15: But whatever, the point is, I now have proof that I can shoot my 10/22 with a stock 16" carbine barrel and 4 power scope and keep the group around 2 MOA. I wish both groups were "keepers" buy hey, waddyagonnado? :p

As I type this, the projected upload time to YouTube is about 2 hours :( so I'll likely post the video in the morning... so check back to watch an incredible 7 minute, un-edited journey of me walking 100 yards back and forth at the range to show you a bunch of holes punched in a piece of paper! :) I can pretty much guarantee that it'll be the most anti-climatic 7 minutes of your life.

(to everyone else reading this... sorry, I had to translate it into "smiley" so cyclone could read it.)

D'Oh :kickInTheNuts:

Hey you knew what I meant....

:D

"I miss seeing the sand puffs for all the friggin snow..."

Where did i go so wrong!!! :(

ROFL... sorry, I totally missed that, somehow the 1st time!!! I guess it never crossed my mind, because there is no snow at my range (B.C. is beautiful for more than just the mountains, sometimes!). (probably also didn't cross my mind because I'm kind of stupid, sometimes). :)

Cheers!

Stingers, Mini Mags & other Hyper Velocity stuff

No such thing as 'accuracy' out of any of the above types of rimfire ammo past the 30 yrd. mark, regardless of wich 'brand' of rifle used as far as I'm concerned!
Winchesters are my only choice for the 100yrds plus ranges on gopher outings!
Aspecially the 36gr Winchester Xpert HP, Win. 333, 40gr. Power-points or even 'plain Jane' 40gr. Subsonics do the job everytime!

There is a thread on Rimfire central about shooting past 200 yards with 22LR. One of the fellows insists that the better choices in ammo when shooting over 100 yards in the Hyper Velocity products, Stingers, MiniMags.
You may find it of interest, I think it is in the Open Rimfire section. FS[/QUOTE]

mmatt; Not bad at all, using run-of-the-mill ammo, particularly the left group. I would suggest that the "low" shot on your first target is a "slow" round, rather than you "pulling" the shot. I do not shoot this type of ammunition in my dedicated target rifles, [unplated SV lead match ammo only] but I have shot some of it through my CZ 452 American, which is very accurate in it's own class. I can usually hear the rounds that are slower, and they always land out of the group. I have shot some 100 yard groups where three of the 5 shots were in ¾moa, and the other two open the group to 1½-3½moa. By contrast, shooting RWS Rifle Match in this rifle, consistent moa 5-shot groups are common. My Suhl 150 or my 40X Remington, with high end match ammo they like, will shoot under 1" at 200 meters on a calm day. Regards, Eagleye.

Yeah, you're probably right Eagleye - most likely a "slow" round. But really, what can you expect from bulk ammo... right? :) I'm just glad that it shoots as well as it does. Besides, if I hit the target every time, it'd get boring. :p

I suppose that depends on what you consider "accuracy". I can consistently headshoot gophers at 80-90 yards with my target rifle. Seing as a gopher's head is about the size of a loonie coin, that seems pretty accurate to me.

You might find this scope fun. 150mins of up w/ a picket fence reticle.

That'll help you reach out beyond 300yds with a 22LR. I have one on order and hope to get it shortly. Always enjoyed LR shooting with rimfires.

Looks beautiful -- but you'd have to buy me one; that's out of my price league by a mile or two, methinks. I almost had a heart attack when I got the bill for that Nikon Monarch 4-16 I'm using now! :)

"long range" .22 rimfire shooting

Small bore silhouette shooters regularly hit the rams at 100 meters. Guns are varied depending on the "hunting" or "silhouette" class. A good "hunting" class is the Sako Finnfire....a common "silhouette" class could be an Anschutz 64....and any optics are used....
I have had good success with CCI Std.velocity ammo, and others swear by Win. T22, and others..
The .22 rimfire cartridge is capable of superb accuracy at 100 yds..

Similar pricing to the Nikon.

Saves having to do massive Kentucky hold over.

Let me know
Jerry

Really? Even the BigSky's of the A/O lots of zoom ilk are a bunch more than I paid for the Nikon -- I was assuming an SIII of any ilk would push the $1,000 mark ??

Thanks,

Thanks,

Had a great time with my 69a and my $85 tasco varmint today - for a guy getting into turrets for the first time I'm really happy... thanks for Brotherjack for the introduction into longrange rimfire - not to mention the redneck ring cant to get me enough turret to go to 255 yards! He did not, however, recommend the tasco. That was my own doing.

Rifle is a Sako Quad with Lilja barrel and PH 3-15x50 scope.

Very nice shooting!

I've only gone out to 200 with my friends' little 4" rimfire gong. But my leupold 2-7x28 had plenty of elevation for that. I'm going to mess around with it at my next range session and see what kind of gorups I can get. I use fed GMM.
