Looking for some pet loads for the 500 using both Hornady 500g xtp and Sierra 400g JSP, shooting out to 100 yards with a handi rifle.

Thanks.

which do you have on hand?

i can't really give you an accuracy report as i'm still not used to the recoil from a 6.5" revolver.

I was doing a little research for my Handi rifle and found most people liked to use H110. Mine loves every load from min to max. IIRC I topped out at 38gr behind the Lee 440gr LFNGC,which is the max according to the Hodgdon site. The most I've been able to shoot sitting at the bench is 4 in a row. Standing isn't so bad, but none of my friends will do it more than once. I should be heading out to try H110 behind the 500gr XTPs next weekend. They're loaded up, but I won't get to the range this weekend. Pretty sure I have them loaded up to the 33gr max from the Hodgdon site.

If you really want to quit foolin around, you'll have to try the 700gr cast monsters. Yikes

They aren't that bad in my revolver, with h110. I find lilgun is the worst recoil wise, but 2400 feels nice and seems to shoot good.

I have a Handi-Rifle in 500 S&W and have shot cast bullets ranging in weight from 400 grs to 700 grs. You might want to try a few for "fun", but I can assure you that you will not want to spend a pleasant range session shooting full-hours loads with this gun, particularly with the heavier bullets.

Trail Boss - 8.0-10.0 grs with 400-500gr bullets gives a pleasant 700-800 fps.

IMR4198 or H4198 - from 40.0 grs, up to a full case with any bullet weight, gives from 1400-1750 fps, at lower pressures than H110 or Lil-Gun. You can not put in too much of this, or slower powders, and exceed safe pressures.

BLC-(2) - a full case with any bullet weight gives 1200-1400 fps and pleasant recoil. My favourite load. I use magnum primers with this powder. You can not put in too much of this, or slower powders, and exceed safe pressures.
