Assuming store bought cartridges and not reloaded, what caliber for taking down 'yotes at say 200-400 yards? And what grain of bullet?

EDIT: No pelt harvesting, just pest control. Sorry for not specifying.

are you after the pelt? Id say 22-250 with 50-55 vmax will do the job perfectly.....If you wanna go past 400 yards a 243 with hornady superformance 58 grainers! These are pelt friendly

An accurate 22-250 with 55 grain bullets will work well at 400 yards but if shots like that are the norm and not the exception I step up to my 257 wby, the 257 is my deer and caribou rifle as well, if buying a dedicated rifle for coyotes the 243 would be a good choice. I'm assuming since you didn't mention pelts you don't really care about them.

All good suggestions for calibres. 257 weatherby might be a little harder to find ammunition for.( and more expensive), but it's a great flat shooting cartridge.

*cough cough 50 BMG........ :D just kidding of course but if you are talking really long range maybe something in the 6.5 range would be better suited but if you are just talking regular stretched yote ranges with a max of 400-450 yards I would say a 243 or 257 roberts would do a dandy job.
Hunter.

I have a .308, .223, and my father in law's issued .303 Enfield (brought back after serving in WWII). I thought about adding a .270 to the collection, as I could hunt with it as well, but not sure if it's overkill for coyotes

270 loaded hot with varmint bullets would be great if you don't have to clean up the mess.

X2 the 270 does just fine on yotes. Personally, I've used a 223, 270, 308, 22 Magnum, 50 cal muzzle loader and a compound bow on them, all with the identical result. Whacked yote. Oddly enough I made my biggest hole in one with a 223 FMJ. Freak hit I guess, but I could've almost fit my head in the exit wound.

.243Win

6mm projectiles have some of the best BCs' going & won't get knocked around in the wind like the .20/.22Cals. If your stretching out to 3-400 yards plus the .243 has better energy behind it to dispatch humanely over the more typical smaller Varmint Cals.

87gr Vmax or 70gr NBTs' are the Coyote sleeping pills of choice in my .243 rig.
