Im looking for suggestions on a calibre that would be great for coyotes in the 4-5 hundred yard range? Im currently shooting a .204 Ruger and can take a coyote at 300 yards with the 39 Blitzkings but past that seems like the wind messes with me. These Sask winds can really get going on the bald prairies
Im thinking a mid size cartridge maybe a .243, 6mm possibly a 25-06?? I not really looking for something with alot of recoil either, 300 win Mag is not what I want. Id also like a rifle in a heavy bbl/varmint configuration.
Let me what you think.

Your answer is 260 Remington. Similar ballistics as the 300WM with 1/2 the recoil and......the wind doesn't mess with you as much.

I too live in the great Abyssal plain, and I have a trued 22BR run in deep .300", good for well over 4000 fps but she shoots better and with less blowups with a 55g pill around 3750. Bought this off Clive's estate, called a 22MR for Mohn/Rempel. Clive past away and was a very good BR shooter, still hold many records here in Canada. He built it for shooting coyotes in Sask at his brother's place up by PA. First time I shot it I shot it at the turkey's at 385m and give it an eyeball on the silhouette the size of half my baby fingernail! It's the one on the far right :) And it's built on a skinny Remington barrel too!!! I'm really grad I do not have a bore scope LOL

I have a 260 rem in a 700 action. A really good gun, but hard to get shells for unless your reloading. Where I am 300-400 is good enough range for me and the 223 is plenty of gun. I think I might try reloading the 260 so I can lend the 223 to my nephew and we can go slay some yotes. Good hunting.
