I was on the Barnes website and noticed the effectiveness of the .243 WSSM. A young hunter bagged a nice mulie buck at 160 yards with an 85gr TSX. The bullet took out both shoulders. She then shot a cow elk at 458 yards with the same .243 WSSM. Now I now a cow elk is not a mature bull, but it was still interesting. I guess a .270 at 400 yards is plenty!

X's are wonderful killers, and can turn marginal rounds into lethal cartridges on larger game.

That being said, shooting an elk at a quarter mile with a 243 WSSM, regardless of the bullet, is foolish IMO...

Yes some of those "cow" elk don't weigh much more an a mature whitetail or mule buck, whereas a mature bull elk can weigh more than twice as much.

I agree that 85gr bullet, no matter the velocity, is not enough of a cartidge for game larger than WT does in my opinion. I agree that cow elk in the SW US are about the same size and the same to lill as a mature mule Deer in central alberta. I tend to blow off these ads by US marketers, as you can never really trust what went on on the hunt involved.
