The weather actually got decent for shooting today, so I thought I'd have a little fun. I've tinkered with my 597 off and on for awhile to get it shooting better.
It now has the Volquartzen trigger(target hammer), I free floated the barrel, I even put half inch key stock/with epoxy in the fore stock to stiffen it up. A little bit of aluminum tape in the action to snug it up....
I even put on a muzzle brake to tame the wild recoil impulse that the .22 rimfire is know for.
Topped with the much hated Tasco Varmint 6x-24x and a bipod.
Anyways, there was an old pot with a death sentence that had been wired onto my 100 m target. I couldn't remember which power and which mildot I'd been using so I went up one at a time.
Great. I shot the very top of the plastic handle, and down it went. So I figured I'd make it a challenge, and go put it out at 200 meters. Thank God for wire.
It was easy to walk up the bullets, but I couldn't imagine the hold over in my head without the mildots.
I had targets that were 14 inches across at the target stand. On 6x, these were one mil give or take. The pot was about 8 inches. Still on 6x, I had to go 5 mils, plus somewhat into the thick part at the bottom line.
Once I was on it, I had a blast. I've read about guys shooting 22 out to 200 meters, but have never tried it. Unless you count lobbing them out to 300 meters for kicks.
I didn't shoot for groups, obviously, just ringing the pot was pretty neat. No special feat mind you, but I think it helped me shoot a little more carefully.
I will have to learn the finesse of dialing in. I guess the point is, I had a blast!!! For you guys that have not yet done this, try it.
