I just finished editing my first episode of series 2 which will look at long range testing of shotgun ammo in ballistics gel.

Awesome video! I will definitely be watching your others. I love that you pack so much info into such a short video instead of dragging it out for no reason.

Also no surprise that you had major issues with a brand new 870... been there, experienced that, never again.
 
Here's a follow up test I did this year during hunting season:


Performance test of Federal's Vital-Shok Copper Plated 00 Buckshot - 55 yard deer kill. The episode's a little longer than my usual efforts, but I'm still somewhat searching for the right amount of balance.

awesome test and very interesting results.

Regarding the test format...I think its a mistake to shoot more than once at the gelatin, though perhaps it is more nit-picking than anything. My assumption is that the exit holes you witnessed on the 40 yard test target could very well have been because the gelatin had been shot up already, and not necessarily because of penetration alone.

excellent vid, although I would agree with you, with that load, I think luck was certainly a factor in this kill. Although that being said, I am very appreciative at the amount of detail and study that you put into making this presentation. Good for you.

Excellent, thanks for sharing!!!:):):) With iron sights, and a freehand shot, at 55 yards.....I would not say that not hitting the heart, as intended, is a full indication of the load`s accuracy. I surmise that the barrel was 20 inches long, with a fixed, Improved Cylinder choke. I have that same barrel on my scoped 870, and with a resting shot, from my blind, I would be confident of great results, on a Nova Scotia whitetail, out to 40 yards, and good results out to 50. This ammunition is hard to find, but I hope to get some to try at the range, and hopefully use next fall. Thanks again Brobee, and Happy New Year:)

Appreciate the feedback! My barrel's 18.5 inches with a straight cylinder bore. My criticism of the performance I witnessed at 55 yards is less related to accuracy and more related to pattern. There were pellets that impacted both to the left and right of my heart/lung aiming point....I think the pattern was slightly too open the range slightly too far.
