Was scoping out a lake closer to my neck of the woods that has 1000 yards with a mountain back drop. Only one way in or out to the lake and secluded but close to a plowed road. Thinking of a Sunday get-together and looking for some shooters. I can supply the gongs and atv to get in and out/check targets. Ice should be good. I will check out this weekend and possibly plan for the weekend after. Anyone interested?
 
For those coming from the south. There is a Tim Horton's in Lively, which is just up 17 from Sudbury. I would be happy to meet people there and they can follow me out.

I am sure Juanvaldez will post more after the scout trip this weekend.

I have two 338's I want to stretch out.

OK...so we checked it out and it is a go. Sunday January 22. If you are coming from the south or east meet tmbrwlf at the Tim Hortons in Lively, ON 46.422191,-81.141538 . He will leave from there at exactly 9:00 AM He will be driving a black ford ranger. If you are coming from the west or manitoulin meet me at the tim hortons/wendys on hwy17 46.286854, -81.776819 . I will be leaving at 8:30am from there. I drive a red ford ranger. If you can bring a quad or snowmachine it will help out as we have a 1km trail from the plowed road so the more machines we have to get in with the better. A snowmobile is preferred. PM me or give me a shout at 705-936-7456 if you need more info.

He doesn't say much but Sean is showing you the spot we scouted today. It has in excess of 1000 yards. The surrounding hills cut the wind. The ice is good and will only get better.

The trail in is fine for quads and snowmobiles. Too far to walk from the road.

This is going to be a fun day.
 
If anyone is wanting some AR500 targets let me or DG know by Wednesday/Thursday

Full size ODPL with two 1” holes, $165 Includes HST (only one left)

If you at the shoot there will be no shipping charges.

Just got word on this today. I am going to try to haul myself up there.

Bringing an HS-50, probably not my .338, but I'll see how I feel the day of.

Picked up a sled and some hardware that I am going to put some bungee straps on the sled with tonight.

Shot 750 last weekend with Vviking, the ice was good so we gaver er hell with your targets matt! I didn't get a chance to hike back out to them, but they ring so nicely when hit with .50bmg!

Finally just got home, was dead tired and had to drive slower then normal as I was ready to fall asleep from waking up at 3:00am. :p

Had an awesome time today, got to stretch the .50 out a little further then normal and saw some awesome gear and shooters.

Nice to put names to the faces.


Got some decent photos, a few ok videos, and one amazing quality video of Jamie shooting my .50, where you can see the shot, hear guys call hit, and a few seconds later hear a loud "BONK" from the 1000 meter target.


I'll upload what I have tonight and see if I can get it posted up here.
 
Here is the video for you all, only one that really turned out good where nobody else is shooting and you can hear the hit really clearly.

Watch it in HD and it is really crisp sound.

The targets in order: 100 meter paper sight in. 400 meter round gong on the ground. 600m, 800m torso targets. 1000m 2x2 square. 1600m torso target.

Big thanks to Matt Moser for the targets, those things are bombproof. Multiple hits, even on the edges, from 308, 338LM, and .50, and they were still smooth to the touch.

Oh man guys, that looks like it was an awesome day. I had intended on coming up with KevinM. and the family but couldn't make it and i'm seriously regretting it!
 
Guys, my hat goes off to you all for setting this up. It's a 8 hour drive for me but I would love to spend a day like that. Keep the fraternity alive, shoot well and be safe.

I think Sean would be very happy to put this on again. You bring the steaks and I will bring the chilli.

Hopefully my new scope won't blowup on the 6th shot of the day.

Sean has final say but I say lets do it again at the end of February.

Ten four on the steaks, had some fine t-bones at our recent shoot Mmmmmm... and 'On Sale' too;)
Could not cook up an edible chili for all the whisky at Wiser's, anyway's.

Bummer on the scope:(, have any luck on the closer gong's? ... from the hip?:p
