Looking for good glass to push out to 1,000yds (eventually - because I am not there yet). To be seated on a Rem700VSF LH.308.
I have narrowed it down
1. Burris Black diammond 6x24-50 Ballistic Mildot
2. IOR 6x24-50
3. NF NXS 5.5x22-50 MLR reticle

Any comments would be appreciated.
 
I have a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14 50mm on my M700 vsf .308 LH. Good choice of rifles, and for a base I swear on my mothers grave the only thing you can get in a 1 piece thats low is badger ordnance 20moa (no one else makes them with taper for us lefties). I am gona get a fine duplex for it and then of course shoot shoot shoot! I am working a load and will take mine out to 1000 yards. Now please say your from the lowermainland:)

Personal experience is with the Burris.
The other two are strong suggestions from individuals whom I respect - and who shoot better than I.
Now that being said: Where and how do you get to try out scopes in Canada? Especially the two other models that I have suggested (IOR & NF)?
Unfortunately the ORA season is over, for all intent and purpose. So while the target/BR/LR/sniper shooters are hibernating - I will continue my quest.

We have talked before when I was looking for my LH rifle. So if you have suggestions I am willing to listen.

Unfortunately the closest I might get to the lower mainland is the occasional business trip to the Fraser Valley and potentially my employer is looking to move me to Alberta....
 
Have had all three including USOPTICS. Nightforce is my preference and I haven't seen any noticeable defects in that brand. Next one to try is S&B (Skullboy has some excellent findings with this brand).

The only concern I would have with Burris is warranty, I can't say what they offer now, but a couple of years back I had a warranty problem, and had to return it to the US to have Burris deal with it, this required import/export paperwork. Burris did service the scope no problem and I never had any issues with it again, but also sold it no long afterwards.
I have Nightforce and US Optics scopes on some of my rifles, both have outstanding clarity. Both offer 100% repeatability if you use the turrets for doing comeups for different ranges.
I have yet to have a problem with the Nightforce so no info on how they are for warranty.
I did have an issue with a US Optics scope, my friend dropped my drag bag and the scope tube got bent. USO fixed it and I had it back in under 1 month at NO charge. I was impressed at the service, I did not expect it to be fixed NC as I would have thought being dropped was abuse. I did tell them it was dropped before I sent it. They will now have a lifelong proponent and customer. Fortunately this all occurred while in the US so there was no paperwork to deal with, not sure of the ramifications if this had happened up here.
I have seen the IOR scopes and they seem very clear as well, no direct experience with them however.
As Rohann points out the Leupold MK4s are pretty decent optics as well.

I have both the Night Force NXS and Leupold Mark 4's. Both have pro's and cons but in the end my vote still goes to Leupold. The nicest feature on the Nightforce is the 2 MOA rectical, I realy do like it now that I have gotten used to it, but the big downfall with this scope is it is only usefull at one power band, where the leupold rectical is on the front focal plane and is accurate through all focal planes for quickly figureing out come ups at extended ranges if you miss by a bit. This is great for a field application, If I were a competitive shooter I might swing a different way,and go to a competitive shooter for that advice. Both scopes are very repeatable, you can run the knobs all day up and down a range and still maintain a zero. Alot of people rave about the quality of the optical glass in the nightforce over the leupold, Myself, and It may be my eye's cant realy see a noticeable differance when compared at the same power level. Both scopes are very sharp and clear. Cosmeticaly the Nightforce looks like a scope built for buisness 56mm Oh YA:dancingbanana: My nightforce goes to 36X magnification and my leupold to 20X I havent been able to get comfortable with the 36X or anything past 24X yet, but maybe it will come with practice. Bang for Buck and a great scope I myself would stick with the Leupold first. IOR second (great glass, excellent rectical NP-8) not sure about warranty, but I believe they are very solid and warranty should not be much of an issue, and Nightforce 3rd. If I had the Cash I would Change that list up and put A U.S. Optics first. Those scopes are just increadable. I get a happy tingle everytime I think of them.

after playing with numerous optics over the years, 757Fixer finally showed me the single best scope I've ever looked through. His PMII P4 Reticle S&B. which is also what Skullboy now has.
 
I have two NF NXSs (both 5.5-22x56-one mildot and one MLR) and a Leupold MK4 (6.5-20mildot) and like LRC said they both have their pros and cons.

One NF sits on top of my Salo TRG 21 and is a range queen. For this application it is an excellent scope. The adjustments on it are crisp, reliable and repeatable, optics are as good as the eyes looking through them are and the reticals on them are well laid out.

The Leupold sits on top of my Sendero which will be my primary hunting rifle once I get it back from the smith and set up. Optics are also very good, the adjustments are not quite as defined as those on the NF (there is a bit of creep in the adjustments) but the unit is very noticable lighter shorted and more compact and for a hunting rig this means a lot.

I may just try an IOR in the near future as I have heard many good things about them.

Yes, I say have a look at the S&B PM-II 5 - 25 X 56mm with the P4 reticle.It is pricey, but worth every penny IMHO.

I Also use leupold MK 4s, plus I have tried U.S .Optics,Nightforce and a few others.I was considering a Nightforce just before I bought the S&B.

The only drawback to the S&B is that it is a 34mm tube body and there isn't a great selection of rings in 34mm.I ended up using Badger Ordnance rings.
