Long range HIGH quality range finders???

I would call everywhere and try to find a Terrapin, they don't make them anymore but there's probably one some where. I've ranged trees at 3750 and buildings at 4500 with mine. Next step would be to pony up for a PLF15. Not cheap but you would never regret it. Only thing I wish the terrapin had was a remote trigger option. The PLF15 will accept a remote trigger, not a big deal but helps ranging small targets at long range.

So what exactly are you ranging? The crest of the hill before the tree line? Sorry, it's not meant to be an offensive post, I just don't understand the need for a rangefinder with the capability of ranging "something" way out there.

Lots of reasons! My rangefinder doesn't range anything beyond 600m. I'd love something that could go out to a mile!

So with a rangefinder having a magnification of 6-8x, how do you range a target? Co-witness with a spotter? Just curious.

Guys have adapted Swarovski 2x "doublers" to increase magnification for ELR use. Have seen versions that incorperate a mount for the 2x eyepiece and a tripod mounting plate. As J Carver pointed out, a remote trigger can be used so as not to disrupt your point of aim while actuating the range button.
A buddy has a PLRF-15C mounted via pic rail on his Spotter 60. I believe Ashbury makes a Co-witness mount so that the spotter and rangefinder can be used in unison.
I briefly had a Terrapin but up-graded to the PLRF-15. Don't really need the capability to range 5K+ but anything inside of 2500m is a joke with this unit. Dead accurate and no missed readings ever. Have been very happy with this purchase.

No offense taken! I was ranging the trees but the unit moved a hair while I was taking the picture. I know the rangefinder is overkill for most common applications but I wanted something that could range accurately to 3500 yards without any trouble.

where can i buy one ?

On a cheaper note, the bushnell one mile arc binos will do past a 1000m. How far past kinda depends on how reflective the target is but I've ranged signs and stuff over 1200m. Trees or darker/softer items probably max out around 900m.

Before I get flamed for putting Bushnell in this category they are pretty decent and are a third of the price of the Leicas. For me and the number of times I get to use them it was the right choice.

I was trying out my Vectronix PLRF15C the other day. Off a window mount they have no problem getting readings off flat ground. I have never seen a rangefinder that will do this...Vectronix really is in a league of their own...

This special rangefinder is what I have. It is an unbelievable accurate rangefinder you will ever have. It can range up to 20km. Yup, 20,000 meters. I have ranged 10km to 19km with accurate reading.
I use it for long range shooting under 1500m for now. It will range any objects, including a branch of a tree over 2km away, click the button once, it will read it. No more trial and error with different objects, just point at the object and it will give you the reading.

I also ranged the thick cloud and it says 2500m.
Ignore the shocking price.

I have the Leica 1200. It is very similar to the 1600 except the 1200 does not figure a firing solution. What I find is that when U get out past 600 or so the aim point of the lazier and the potential target size makes for very difficult ranging. I find that it helps to range something else that is larger that is the same distance as the target, however using this method is somewhat problematic.

Wow what is it and how much did you pay for it, if I might ask?

Anyone on the fence about a Vectronix should decide sooner than later. Supply is drying up and when they're gone they're gone.
It will be the last rangefinder you will ever buy.
