Long range in Nova Scotia

We shoot out to 800m at NSRA in Upper Rawdon, and AMA, primarily a pistol club, has extended it's rifle range out to 280m. AMA has several fun shoots at 280m every year.

(singing) "The Rawdon Hills, once were touched by gold..."

But now more like smacked by little pieces of lead! I saw the pics of the Meadow - looks awesome!

Question for you guys, do I really have to get a membership to go shoot at NSRA? I live a good 1h30 away, I will really like to go shooting there every once in a while but I can't see myself spending over 200$ on a membership for couples time a year.

That's my issue as well... it's just about $300 (the highest fee for any range in NS).
There isn't a ton of ranges in the province, but considering the proximity (2hr or less) of the most centralized ones, it seems to make the choice of what to sign up for that much harder. Obviously you sign up for the one closest to you, but it's always nice to get out for a change of scenery (or a longer range). The MVRRC appears to have the longest range for your dollar, but I don't know which side of the province you're on, it could be that much farther away than the NSRA...
I don't know what the majority of people do (I haven't heard much of anything about NS on here in general), but I'm guessing that if you want to check out one of the other ranges, you find a buddy with a membership there that can take you? I'm not sure on the policies the various places have of bringing guests to shoot...

Can you show me another civilian range you can shoot a half-mile at that has a membership fee of $285 anywhere in the country?

Oh, and after your 4th year, that $285 drops to $85.....

Come as a guest twice to see it, and if you like it, join.

If you don't, well, thanks for checking it out.

I didn't mean any disrespect, it's just frustrating as someone just starting out.

That being said, undoubtedly when I get a rifle more reasonable for longer distances, I'll be checking out the NSRA range and probably end up signing up.

I'd love to scope my SKS and give it a shot :)p), though it's possibly an exercise in futility... I did happen to read your website and have deduced that I'm better off saving my cash for something more accurate :)
If you've got an SKS that you think will win the match for you, then go for it! (If your SKS is that accurate I'd love to see it...maybe even buy it!!)

Shooting an SKS is not futile.

Trying to make an SKS into a precision rifle is an exercise in futility.

The ballistics of the round are relatively poor as compared to many others (it is an intermediate cartridge) but there is one thing it IS good for.

Because the bullet is aerodynamically poor (looks like a bus flying downrange) it makes a larger sworl than many other rounds.

This makes it easier to spot the sworl.

This will help train a spotter.

But, if you want to shoot long range, don't scope your SKS, bank the money and build towards something better. Even a used Varminter will shoot better, and it's easier to scope.

Having been down the road before, buy good gear once, or buy junk gear many times.

Hey folks,

If you're interested in being a good rifle shooter, joining NSRA is worth every penny even if they didn't have the great facilities.
Thier shooters are extremely experienced and knowledgable on long range rifle; hence the reason it's the home of so many champions.

The NSHMRA is having a practice at the military range in Debert on Sat,Aug 21.Will be shooting 300,500 and 600 yds.Start time 9:00 AM.Everyone welcome.

I was at Debert Range this AM, having travelled from Lake Echo, Jeff Jenkins from Timberlea and 2 new shooters from Brookield, all being made aware of this practice by my advising of this posting. At least Jeff had the Bull Meadow Range keys and booked it so the whole day wasn't wasted, just some extra time and gas!

this is not the right spot but i cant find any info on who supplies the items like rests in NS.

i just moved out here but before i did i bought a f class rig.

now i want to shoot it lol but i need a few things like a front rest and back bag.
as well i want to get a reloading set up.

can find lots in the states not so much up here.

and suggestions or guidance would be awesome!

Bull meadows looks very nice but correct me if I misunderstood, the program descriptions mentions very specialized shooting being carried out on the long range and hunting rifles and others being restricted to the 100 yrd range. There is no mention of additional flexiable use of range facilties or programs.that would further motivate me to join. This would be a great venu for those who practice long range BPCR shooting, which is what I do. All seems very specialized and formal to me...dare I say exclusive?

It is not exclusive and once you have had an introdution to range you can use it as you wish. Of course you have to be a member and follow range rules. Great facility, reflecting years of work.
