I recently purchased my first rifle! It's a Remington 700P .308 and I am looking forward to trying it out at the range. To do this though I need a fair bit of distance, and i'm kinda limited here. Is the range at Connaught still open on weekends, and if so could I try my new rifle out there? I have never shot a precision rifle before, so if there are lots of other shooters around, hopefully someone may have some helpful hints for the new guy:)

Get in touch with Ian Robertson on this board. He is a member of the NCRRA at Connaught and can let you know if they are still shooting this time of year.

You might also want to contact the folk at Ontario Rifle Association. However, I suspect that the season is pretty much over.

No more bugs, way less mirage, calmer air, nice light, barrels don't heat up, chance to fill the freezer while playing...

This is when shooting STARTS!!!!!.

Good luck and enjoy the rifle. There really isn't any big difference between shooting short range and long range. You just move the cross hairs more.

Here are some pics of my first rifle. The pics are fairly basic, took them for insurance purposes, in case something happens to my rifle. Here's the details: Remington 700P, bolt action .308, custom bedded, reworked trigger 3.2LBs ( i think, don't sneeze on it ), versa pod bipod, Warne 20MOA mounting rail, Leupold 6.5x - 20x MK4 scope with illuminated mildot reticle, eagle rifle pouch, custom fitted pelican case, cleaning doo dads, Swarovski laser range finder. Top notch work from the magic custom gun shop out west !! :)

I'll try to take some much nicer pics, camnet in background, bud light girls etc

I stand corrected - I was refering to competitive shooting. More specifically within the confines of classification from DCRA - on a military range.

Glad to hear you guys like my new rifle! Still waiting for some info on Cannaught range in Ottawa. Hopefully they are open for business tomorrow.
