Long Range optics choice

My go - to scope for entry level rifles in the PR game and also for experimenting and other fun. This baby set me back $250 plus $20 shipping. These scopes have never let me down:





and also killing several earth pigs/ ground hogs to you westerners in 'Berta.... :wave:

It's not so much the total failure rate, though the rate of tilting reticles, inaccurate tracking, poor return to zero after box and ladder movements, drifting, lagging turrets etc is higher. The main benefit is the purity and quality of glass which lets you see further and longer without eye strain. Other benefits usually include crisper turret detents, stronger tubes that don't crush, longer eye relief, bigger eye box and smoother zoom rings.

I too would really appreciate your thoughts on the DMRIIs, Sir. I'm leaning toward one for a heavy target rifle, or possibly holding off for the rumoured ERS GenII.

Have a 3-12 LRHS which I'm very pleased with, from a performance and feature set perspective, especially when the price is factored in.
 
I took the two DMRii's out on Sunday. Overall impressions were very favorable - I really like the G3 reticle and the turrets are very good. Glass is not as good as my S+B, Kahles and NF ATACR but it is every bit as good as the Sights on Siii or old NF NXS so, in other words, pretty darn nice.

Glass is very good compared to optics twice the price. ;)

For what you are asking for, many shooters are reporting very positive results for LR shooting. I am personally shooting 2 STAC 3-16X42 to test them for optics, repeatability, POI shift and so forth. I am still at the 100yds stage but so far green light. All the tracking and POI tests I have done have been positive.

Lower costs doesn't always mean worst product. I think you need to compare how each company structures and prices their optics insteads of comparing all $1000 scopes.

a fully decked Honda might be $40,000 with every bell and whistle upgrade. A BMW might be a bare bones starter at the same price.

I prefer to look at the product, its specs, its purpose and how it functions... the cost will be justified if it does all that I want. A value option would be this level of performance but for less money.

Tamochan has promised an enlightening and thorough assessment of the DMR II's...looking forward to it.

With respect to an ERS Gen 2, that is what the DMR II/HDMR II and DMR II-i's are: they have all of the features of the previous ERS models (10 mil turrets, zero-stop) as well as the latest improvements: Throwhammer, lower profile non-locking turrets and the improved ultra wide-band lens coatings. There has no official communication on an ERS Gen 2. An updated XRS 4.5-30 would be welcomed.

I now have stock in all of the new models, as well as some DMR's on clearance:

Elite Tactical DMR 3.5-21x50 G2 reticle: $1499 - clearance pricing
Elite Tactical DMR II 3.5-21x50 G3 reticle: $1799
Elite Tactical HDMR II H-59 reticle: $1799
Elite Tactical DMR II-i 3.5-21x50: $1899

The above prices should prove very competitive, however find a better price in Canada and as always, I'll beat it!

I agree. I'll be watching 'elsewhere' for his continued opinions on the DMRII.

I'm aware of the Gen2 upgrades to the DMR/HDMR and think they're great. I've become a huge fan of my LRHS and like that many of the features and functions transfer across the new Elite Tac line. Regarding possible ERS GenII- you're correct of course, no official announcements- but Bushnell reps are dropping very direct hints about a possible ERSII/XRSIIon at least one LR forum. Time will tell. :)

Thanks for the info and pricing. Very good to know someone has a good selection of these in Canada.
