Not sure if this is the right place to post if not Mod please move to proper section.

I am looking for area(s) beside Base Borden where I can shoot over 300 yards and possibly longer.

Oshawa has probably the longest range that I know of in the GTA area ( 300 yards ) but I am looking for longer range to hone my shooting skills, and unfortunately I don't know anyone has a property large enough allow long range shooting.

I am willing to drive 2 to 3 hours from the GTA anybody can point me to the right direction will be very much appreciated.

Do you have to be a member at Oshawas to go shoot or can you pay? Im living in Markham until March 1st and brought my .223 along. I wouldnt mind going down the 401 and popping some primers.

I believe you have to be a member to shoot at the rifle range. I would love to try it out, but unfortunately do not know anyone that shoots there.

Its near Minden Ont , I attended a M-14 clinic that Hungry ran a there .
It is a good facility with a few ranges on it .

Hey dont forget CFB Cedar Springs just south of Chatham. It's exit 81 on the 401 head south on Bloomfield road to the end and hang a left. About 2 miles up you will see a road called Charring Cross. Hang a right and go to the first street on the right. Cedar Springs is on that road. You cant miss it.

Check out the event schedule on the Ontario Rifle Association web site.

CGN Member Maynard runs the joint. You can PM him for updates.

Almost that easy to get to Cedar Springs. When you turn left off the Bloomfield you are turning onto the Eigth Line. Follow that down to the end and turn right into Charing Cross Road. You have to go throught the little village of Charing Cross and up through Cedar Springs. Second road on your right is Water Street, turn onto it and drive about 800m, turn left into the range prpoerty.

In order to get access to DND ranges you must be a member of the ORA or be a guest. There is contact information on the ORA web page to put you in touch with the person that coordinates each range.

If you are an ORA member can you use the CFB Cedar Springs range anytime?

No.

With most highpower ranges, it is not practical to run a range (and shoot on it) all by yourself. Additionally, with DND ranges, there are even more restrictions and hurdles - for example, a range officer who is not shooting. And in the case of ranges whose danger area is a lake (Cedar Springs and Winona), you need a person or two on the beach as "beach patrol".

There's also the issue of making the targets work - you need a person to operate the target, so you can see each shot as you fire it.

All told, this means that you have to have organized events (be they practices, matches or training sessions), with a scheduled date and a scheduled start time, and a definite finish time. Unfortunately this is dis-appealing to a lot of people, who would prefer to be able to show up at any day and any time of their choosing. Just the nature of the beast so far. (Private ranges with electronic targets are much likelier to be able to accommodate "show up and shoot" long range shooting)

Thanks for all the input!

The CFB Petawawa base gun club might be a little far than I want to drive on a weekly basis as well as Cedar Spring.

Ganderite,
