I'm new to long range shooting and wanted to know where you all practice? I'm from Chilliwack and I haven't been able to find anything over 200yds other than the military range (who I believe doesn't accept civilian drop-ins).

Any help would be much appreciated.

The closest option for you is the Mission rod and gun club. They have a 300 yard range there and they also hold regular 300M drop-in shoots.

Kamloops has a 500 and soon-to-be 900M range.

You're right in that Vokes is a military range and one cannot drop-in to shoot there, but if you become a member of the BC Rifle Association, there are several organized shoots there during the summer.

You should think about coming out and jumping in with both feet and trying an F-Class match. In Kamloops and Mission, we have a sporter class that would allow you to shoot with the rifle you have, without having to invest in specialized equipment.

We actually have just such a match happening on the Halloween weekend in Kamloops. We would love to welcome you aboard and introduce you to several folks from your area that would love to help you along the way to long range shooting. Drop me an email if you are interesting in giving this a try.

regards,

Ian

I would also suggest you look at finding some crown land that will allow you to shoot long range. I have two places that I go to shoot that allow shots out to 1800m. Plus as it is a cut line, there is adequate room to drive the truck or ATV. Makes checking targets a little easier....

As noted by Ian, at the Mission & District Rod & Gun Club, we have a 300 yd range which is a start. If you join the BC Rifle Association, you could sign up for Club 600 which is a monthly 600 m shoot that runs through the Winter at the Vokes Range in Chilliwack.

I must say great answer! Thank you, I had the same question in my head too.

I was thinking about cut lines the other day... My grandparents have one that runs along the back of their farm North-East of Edmonton but I don't make it out that way NEARLY enough.

LOL... the only cut line I know of close to my location is the 49th parallel and I doubt I'd get a second round in the chamber if I did that.

Thats too funny, our good neighbors to the south are nervous enough as it is without your help......:)

It would be fun to grab a 6-pack and go try it!

Not trying to hi-jack a thread but would you believe a few years ago a chap from Cultus Lake near the Border accidentally became lost on his quad, ended up on Their side, fired a couple rounds and .....guess what ?
Suddenly out of the sky came the Blackhawk gunship and the Cavalry !!
It took a lot of talking and begging on his part, but 24 hrs later, a fine and a severe reprimand he made it back home. Oh yes, and a new pair of Stanfields.
:D
