Hello,

I would like to learn from the ground up on long range/precision shooting. I am slowly gathering up the gears (as long as money permitted) :).
Can anyone recommend an agency or instructors that offer this?

Thanks in advance.

In Western Canada the place to go is the Rob Furlong Marksmanship Academy. It's an outstanding program taught by a true Canadian hero.

If you are around Calgary or central Alberta at all, I would give Dale Campbell a call. He runs practical marksmanship and has a website named the same. Good guy and will cover a good amount of material and shooting styles for the $$$. He runs different levels of courses based on your wants from the course. Nice thing is too you are not judged by the gear you brought... shoot what you got, as long as its 1/2 accurate but no need to run all the uber $ stuff.

Where are you. If in Ontario contact Bob Raymond. On this site. He puts on an exelent cource

What is Bob Raymond's background? I could not find his background on ORA website. Since options are always goo, are there any other instructors in GTA that similar to Rob Furlong's? :)

He shoots with the ORA. His cource is held at range Burlington and base Borden.

You can also check out Milcun, near Lindsey. Keith Cunnigham and Linda Miller run a number of courses and shoots all year long. They teach police forces and civilians. They have some good books, too.

And join the ORA and start shooting. If the cadets can shoot 308, off their elbows, with irons sights, at 1000 yards, then you can shoot too. If you don't own a rifle yet, the ORA can probably lend you one for six months.

Good shooting requires lots of trigger time - not computer time.

What type of long range shooting are you interested in? The gear and training vary for different disciplines (although the fundamentals are the same). I suggest reading the new sticky Kombayotch wrote about different long range games.

Milcun is great and the ORA is easily accessible (when the base range is open) . The Tactical Teacher clinic is also a good place to start.

Also trigger time with a 22 as far as you have access to shoot it is invaluable. I like to start my range session at 50yards to get my fundamentals sorted then move to 100, 200 and 300 yards where the wind wreaks havoc with those tiny pieces of lead.

I have never taken the course, however their instructor is a very active PRS shooter and is actually the current web developer for the PRS site. http://www.precisionrifleseries.com/board-of-directors.html

There is a lot of stuff in PRS matches that is not taught in many of the courses and clinics up here (barricades, loopholes, uphill/downhill shooting, weak side shooting).

There is also MTC in Michigan:

You may also want to consider the Rifles Only course that is going to be offered in Michigan:
