long range predator rifle

If using the 243 for hides, would a barnes tsx or a nosler partition bullet work better and would it still give you the distance needed for shooting longer ranges

I would look at a fast twist 223 Rem. Shoot anything from 40 gr varmint bullets to 80gr target bullets. Build a sporter gun that weighs 8.5 lbs. Since you already have the 243 starter, maybe the 22/250 with an 8 twist would be the ticket. Lapua brass is the best option. It's always available somewhere, and well priced.

I like the .243 cal as much as the next guy but they have too much energy to save hides consistently. Unless like Keith suggested your using very stout bullets.

I use 70 grain Speer TNT's for coyotes in my 243. They are excellent on fur with a small entry and no exit as long as you hit center mass. I've considered a precision predator build in 243 or 6 Creed using a two bullet setup with one of the 100+ gr high bc bullets for those dogs that just can't be coaxed inside 300.
