long range range opportunities on Vancouver Island

Hey guys,

I am packing up in the prairies and heading west. settling on Vancouver Island, Cowichan Valley.

Any advice on clubs to joint where there may be some opportunity to shoot a bit of steel at longer Ranges.

I figure I will join BC wildlife federation and Victoria Fish and Game, but interested to hear of any other clubs on the island.
 
Good and bad news on this.

Bad news first, the nearest club with a long rifle range is Campbell River, which is a 2 hour + drive. Nanaimo / Courtenay Clubs have small rifle ranges, Campbell River has 600 metres.

The next bit of bad news is that the majority of the land on the south eastern side of the island is private industrial forestry land which is being closed up and thus access is limited.

The good news is that these forestry lands are normally open at weekends, and you will find a good spot after some reconnaissance. Bad news is that there are a lot folk out in the woods, but if you pick a good spot you will be fine.

You should be able to locate a reasonably remote / safe / suitable clear cut within 1 hour from your home. Purchase of a back roads map / GPS / software is a must. I wish you well.

you should probably sell all your guns to your good friends in sask for pennies on the dollar so you don't have to lug them all the way to the coast.........
