Long Range Rifle Fundamentals Course - Intro 6 + 7 July at CFB Borden

No 30-06rifles ?
The Forces has a licence system that templates ranges based on in-service cartridges first. Civilian and police chamberings are a distinctly lower priority. If a cartridge is clearly in between 5.56 and 7.62, the certification is simple. The .338LM and .50-cal single shot rifles are well known, and not a hard decision. The last 30-06 small arm in service I can think of, would have been a Sherman tank mounted M1919A4 coax, and those went out of issue about 1965. Any documentation would need to be revisited. Where things get complicated are the middle-class wildcats like 6.5x284 and the multiplicity of Creedmores.

The Province of Quebec Rifle Association has held its target matches at Valcartier for a few decades since the loss of ranges at Sand Hill and St Bruno. They will know how to contact the practical shooting group. I think they book Trois-Rivieres Range out in the training area. I fired many boxes of .50-cal and 7.62 link from the main firing point.
I know people who go to the matches there and enjoy them.
You will have some fun.

30-06 is on the Range licence generally on the longer distance ranges.
I work on many ranges at CFB Borden and strangely the range licences are all different :)

Long Range Rifle Fundamentals Course - Intro 6 + 7 July

View attachment 770128

This course is aimed at new or inexperienced Shooters that want to shoot Long Range or compete in matches, but
need knowledge and experience of Long Range Fundamentals, to both be safe and to learn to shoot groups under 1
MOA every time (this is a general requirement of most long range matches).

Set up of your rifle, ammo, scope, breath, trigger, bipod, rear bag, recoil management, sight picture, safety, and all Long Range Fundamentals are taught on this course. The aim will be to train shooters to be able to consistently shoot on demand, 5 round groups of 1 MOA or less, regardless of conditions.

What it is:
- Learn rifle marksmanship principles and long range shooting fundamentals to create safe and accurate shooters ready to join a discipline. This is for shooters who are ready to learn. Learn to shoot zeroed and centred groups every time based on the capability of your equipment, ammo, and ability. If you can shoot a good group at 100 yards you can shoot at 1000 yards. This is applicable to competition and hunting.
- Safety: Safe direction, arcs of fire, berms, wildlife, load ready commands, when you can bring the rifle to the mound, unload/show clear, being cleared from the mound.
- Knowledge of etiquette, behaviour, rules, and shooting on Military ranges where these practices and matches take place.

What it is not:
- It is not a “Intro to shooting” type course. It is specifically for Long Range Fundamentals, and shooters should have all their own equipment and have been shooting previously with that equipment.
- Anything to do with a competition or a discipline – that would be taught elsewhere. It does not cover competition, targets, butts and how they operate, match tactics etc.

What you will learn at the Course:
- Shoot a minimum of 150 rounds, learn to shoot small groups that are centred.
- Learn how to set up your rifle for best results, and about ammo choices that make you consistent - Learn Long Range Fundamentals and apply them to improve your shooting.

What you Need to attend:
- Rifle and ammo that are safe and capable of shooting 1 MOA or less, even if you are not.

This sounds like a great course. Not sure we got something like this in the Kootenay’s but a great idea.
