Got this information as a random post 'suggested for me' on Facebook, shows a bunch of Texans clearly competing in what I'm calling a practical shooting competition using rimfires fired from a variety of positions you would find when out small game hunting in the real world. My understanding of such events in Canada has always involved strictly bench shooting or perhaps also from standing, kneeling, and prone postures, but are such events as this Texas version perhaps held in Canada? Definitely what I see as sharpening real world shooting skills.

If it’s a find the target, range it, engage it without prior knowledge of the stage and shooting off of things like rocks, logs, fence posts etc yes. It’s called a Hunter or field match. Requires a bit more gear and commitment because generally you carry whatever you need for the day without returning to your vehicle. The stage is shot on the clock. Most shooters are too afraid of looking silly trying something new so sign ups are not what an match director would hope. Canadian Rimfire Precision Series has some of these events. Anyone with land access and targets can write a COF and run it.

Rimfire PRS is hot here in Canada of late too
CRPS, BCPRL, NRL22 all have prs style events, just shot a nrl22 yesterday
Shooting is from various positions needed for the array of props including chairs, ladders, barrels, boxes, bricks, tank traps, etc etc
some of which might be found in a gopher town

I'm working on setting up a range of my own for this type of thing. I add barricades etc as time allows me to build them.

So far I have a tank trap, a couple vtac style barricades, barrels, boulders, a structure that includes a rooftop, a wall with a window, a parapet, and a hanging sling to use as a rest.

My short range with a berm is 80 yds and I have several steel plates at various places in the field beyond out to a little over 400 yds right now.

It's a lot of fun and something different from just sitting at a bench and shooting paper.

That does look pretty tremendously complicated, and therefore interesting. Something you could spend your lifetime mastering.

There is always room to improve, but the basics are straightforward. Whatever the rest is, it’s important qualities are it’s height and stability. There are 5-6 positions, mostly 4 that cover heights. Know your dope, hold over or dial, squeeze. Practice make you faster.

I attended a BCPRL .22 match this year for the first time and I loved it! Fantastic group and lots of fun. I’m hooked!

depends on your age and fitness, it can be a challenge just maneuvering and transitioning, the shooting part is pretty easy after a good foundation is built
it got me more interested in improving my own bendy-ness :)
