What are you guys using for your "long range" rimfire rifles? I am building up a tactical trainer and am looking for some advice on what I should be looking for. What kind of reticle do y'all prefer, magnification range, other features, etc? So, show what you've got and lets see some tactical trainers!

I have an ES350B Mauser presently being fitted for a target style walnut stock, beaver tail fore end, adjustable cheek piece. Adapter for an Atlas bipod.
Going to top it off with a Shepherd scope. The 22 LR model, 3-10 power. Wish it had more magnification, but hands free switching of differing target distances got my attention.
Secondary cross hairs for up to 500 yards.

I set up an HK300 22WRM for longer range shooting. I used a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44mm with ballistic turret and 4W reticle.
I went with the Swarovski because I found the clarity and resolution were more important than more magnification. The BT is customized for the CCI 30gr Maxi Mags which shoot exceptionally well in the rifle.
I can't focus in closer than 25m with this set up but it is designed for 100m+ and works well out there.

Cool. I'm probably going to get a Viper HST due the the fact that is has the features I want and I get a discount through work. Yay for working retail!

CZ 455 17hmr with a Leupold vxiii 3-10x50. The boon and crocket reticle works well for distance shooting with the hmr. More of a hunter than a paper punching Rifle, but a good trainer none the less.

Also, might as well share the rifle that this new scope is destined for:

forgot some stuff

hi - thi is not really forf tactical training, I just like to shoot it and do my best to compete with the boys that have the costly euro-rigs. if I do my part it will keep up to the middle of the pack. I don't hve any bragging groups in a photo, but when this old girl and I ar eon our game it will crank out 1/2 MOA @ 100 yds pretty consistently.
cheers!

oops! the gun is an early '70's REm 540X single shot with a 1977 leupold 24X with an AO and very fine target reticle

you got me e with'tactical trainer!
my 100 yd set up is a 1972 Rem. 540X: thetraining rifle for the USMC
to extract it's potential, I ended up putting an older Leupold36X benchrest scope on it.
I love the history of the model as well as the accuracy
cant post my bragging targets because the photobucket thing miffs me
with Lapua centerrX it will make 1/2"groups; the mystic precision bipod made quite a difference too!

i use my CZ 452 varmint with a weaver t36 scope. this is my setup for 100-yard shooting. fun times.

Depends on your definition of long range and what you are going to do with it. Are you doing PRS, benchrest, both, so thing else? You'll get lots of different answers depending on your use.
