Long range scope between 800-1300$

Thanks for all the insight and wisdom from everyone. Spoke to Jerry and purchasing the sightron 6-24 FFP. Won't need to drop any money on a range finder since I'll be able to range targets no problem and not worry bout powers and such.

OK its a good choice but I must warn you... The scope come with insanely cheap flip lens covers ! :p

I'd add a word of caution for First Focal Plane. Few people actually need a FFP sight, and if you aren't using it for what its good for, then you are paying the price for the trade offs with no benefit. Unless you are using random objects to estimate distance at a variety of optical zooms, I don't really see the need.

Ranging is done at maximum power the vast majority of the time with an FFP scope. In 2015, ranging is at the bottom of the list of the uses of a milling reticle. Ranging was it's primary use back in the 1990's when scope has mismatched turrets and reticles and were primarily SFP. Things have evolved in the last 20 years. Ranging has nothing to do with the reasons people buy FFP scopes instead of SFP scopes.

Congrats, the sightron will treat you well.

You'll want to rethink the no range finder idea tho.

Well I didn't say I wouldn't eventually. Just if I can hold off on dropping 400+$ for a bit then I'm happy. If I'm just shooting at paper then all I'll have to do is measure it before hand then just range it with the scope for a rough idea. Got to start somewhere.

If you have an andriod based phone there are plenty of GPS range finders for free. They are a good place to start.

Just an idea, but it would be good to find a used, mint condition 8-32x56 NF and pay under $1,300.00 for it.

I have a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 FFP with the G2DMR reticle on a Savage Model 11 in .223 and it's a very capable scope. The Nightforce SHV was a little better in several aspects but the Bushnell had the mil turrets (uncapped) and FFP reticle which I liked. It was better than the Vortex Viper line.

Granted it doesn't hold a candle to my Tangent Theta but it's definitely worth a look for the money.

Very good point, I'll look into it but I don't want to have an electronic crutch I can always use. I'd like to if need be do it all with my head in case I either am out of cell range or no phone or rangefinder.

Once again... hate to break to to you but a quality range finder will set you back more then that...

Enjoy what you have though. It's not a race and the FFP Sightron was a good choice. You'll like it.

That's why I put 400 plus, 400 being the very low end bare minimum cost. I just like getting mid range to high range equipment off the bat so I'm not getting more costly with more upgrades later down the road. But I'm learning lots from you guys and it's much appreciated.
