Long Range Shooting Course

Yeah, I would like to learn some sniper-ish stuff like unknown distances, shooting on inclines, quick follow up shots and stuff like that, you know, stuff that applies to hunting and random long distance shots,

The name of the game is practice... and knowing your equipment.

As in, what kind of scope do you use?

Do you know how the mildot system works?

Do you know how to read wind?

But what if you do not have access to a 300 yard rifle range? Should you practice at 100 yards? No. That is really a waste of ammunition. You will need to drive to a 300 yard rifle range at least once to zero your rifle. However, to learn to read the wind, you should buy a .22 RF target rifle and a case of subsonic match grade ammunition for it. I use Federal Gold Medal UMB1 but, as long as you are using ammunition that is less than or close to the speed of sound (1125 fps), the windage needed at 50 yards is the same as the windage used on your highpower rifle at 300 yards. Practicing at 100 yards with a .22 is equivalent to practicing at 500 yards with a highpower rifle. Even if you have access to a 300 yard range, buying a .22 target rifle is not a bad idea. It costs a dollar every time you fire your highpower rifle, but even the most expensive .22 ammunition is a tenth that much.
