I have a place now that I can shoot out to 400m but I would like to get into F-class and need a spot to shoot out to 1000m for practice. Just wondering where the rest of you F-class shooters practice??

West of Calgary there is a Provincial range that goes out to 1000. Try google, I'm sure someone will post the exact name and location shortly.
Have Fun!

You are right, I need my eyes checked. Guess no 1000m shooting for me. I heard there was one out there though. Maybe one in Consort as well, but that's a pretty long drive from Calgary. Try Homestead or Sibald Range, says 900m. Closer to Calgary.

400m will do you well for load development and getting the basics of your position worked out, but there isn't much to substitute for the actual experience of competition. We have about 20 days of competitive shooting scheduled from April to October, plus three intro days and a lot of active shooters than can give you some feedback and coaching if you want it. You can supplement this by shooting matches in BC and SK quite easily, or continuing onto other provinces, states and countries. The F-Class World Championship is held in Raton NM this year and 7 Alberta shooters are on the Canadian F-TR & F-O teams.

The Homestead Range south of Sibbald Flats in K Country goes out to 900m. Club membership is required and after you demonstrate that you are an active member of the club (participate in competitions, etc.), you're able to obtain keys. Hope to see you out there.

Yea I`m gunna go to one of those free new shooter days and next year hopefully ill become a member and start going to the competitons. 400 yards is good to work on load development and working on technique and such but not so much for helping me learn to read the wind at longer ranges. Plus shooting steel at 1000yards is so much more fun!

Hopefully the APRA does not make people wait until the "new shooter days" come around to introduce someone to the game. I am sure if you made contact with one of the members, you could go out and have a look around during a practice of match. You need to hear it right from the horses mouth about rifles, calibers, equipment etc, before you waste your time and money on something that may not be suitable for competition.

I would def. be interested in this if anyone reads this and is interested in helping a new guy out?

Next clinic is July 14 - if you're willing to jump into a match cold, that's a possibility to come in earlier, but every weekend from now and up to and including July 27/28 (with the exception of June 1/2 and June 28/29) is booked for training and competitions. The July long weekend is definitely not a go, as most of us will be in Winterpeg for the Western Championship. Like to help newbies out, but we've got other commitments as well, so we schedule/publish these clinics in advance and volunteer our time. Hope to see you shooting in July or drop by a match.
