After looking around on the site for a bit I have noticed that people are willing to pay alot of money (or a least I think it is alot of money, maybe I am just cheap!) to have someone school them on the finer points of marksmanship and long range precision shooting. Also I have noticed that their are very few persons and or schools in Canada for this type of thing. I don't know what qualifies someone to teach others these things and charge them money to do so. Does this person need a military background? Have they been shooting all there life and just figured it out? Have they done high speed courses the world over in precision shooting and marksmanship? What are some credentials someone should have? I like everyone here enjoys shooting, more over think that the only truly interesting rifle is an accurate one, and feel that I bring something to the long range/precision shooting table. I have had the opportunity to teach others how to shoot, and how to shoot well, and I am just curious of the interest out there for this type of thing. I am not going to post all the reasons and all of my qualification on here as to why I think I might fit the bill as one of these potential instructors, and I am not looking to start some kind of buisness, call me humble or maybe just someone who doesn't like to bragg, but if someboy was truly interested I would be more then willing to talk with them and tell them a bit about myself and my background on the subject.

Someone who "knows" their stuff.

If you are going to run a course from your field behind your house, I'm not willing to pay a professional rate. If you were going to fly to my range to teach a course (providing your background/experience checks out) I would be willing to pay my share to cover your costs.

Reputation will mean everything if you plan to charge for teaching. If you have a facility, that will help. If you plan to have a web site and not much else, it will be a tough sell.

I was starting to make plans to attend Magpul in Washington state untill a friend said foreigners aren't allow anymore. So I'm willing to take my truck and trailer to travel to places are drivable in a day and half kind of thing. And pay for stuff thats "worth" it.

What you are looking for?

reputation is huge, people inherently need to know that you can walk the walk not just talk the talk. Most instructors I've ever come across have either extensive military background, a wall of shooting decorations or simply kicked my ass on the line here or there. its one thing for you to believe your qualified to instruct and you very well may be but it takes a bit more for someone to spend their hard earned dollars on what you have to offer. Best of Luck! We can never have enough educators in the field!!!

I am not actually trying to start some kind of "school" or "clinic" or whatever you would like to call it, and I totally understand everyones scepticism on anyones so called qualifications with regards to precision shooting, witch is why I am asking the same question, as it is not like becoming a mechanic or doctor, their is no school to go to and no PHD's of shooting so to speak, so it must be more a word of mouth thing and reputation. I was just inquiring as to what is out there and perhaps it would be something for me to look into after I retire if I was bored. For me it would not so much be about the money as it would be about passing on my knowledge to others and the enjoyment I get from teaching others and perhaps save someone alot of their time and money. Thank you both so far for the feedback it is very much appreciated, that's why I posted it on CGN because you will always get good honest opinions and advice here.

After posting I read your profile. Seeing what it says and where you are located tends to suggest what background you could have.

I would be willing to travel that kind of distance. Take a few days off work or a week. Only other option that I am really aware of is Milcun in south eastern ish Ontario. There may be one further south here in Alberta.

If you decide to go this route, all you will have to do is run a course and get a few Gun Nutz in it. The rest will take (free advertising) off or fall flat on its face.

My interest is peaked.

I would also like to learn to properly use a wind meter. Took a course where it wasn't mentioned much at all.
