Long range shooting on Crown land in Ontario

Google maps will take you to the hwy 41 entrance to the Lingham lake corridor. Play with satalite and terrain views to get a feel for the area. This is the most expansive crown land area in Southern Ontario. Not a single residence within many miles. You can see clear line of sight for kilometres.
Edit: here is a sat pic. You can see hwy 41 on the right and 62 on the left. The wide stripe is the hydro corridor. It is approx 200 yards wide.
i know the area this is in, my ex gf's parents lived in pembroke, and id take 41 from kaladar up, great drive. i'm going to have to check this out. to tweed its approx 3.5 hours from hamilton. so not a bad drive.
there is also a gun range up there, not sure the name, but its off of 41 just past kaladar, on the left hand side, i wonder what theyd have for available ranges. its maybe 4km off of hwy 7 up 41.

Looks great, thanks for the info. I rent a cottage up that way every summer, looks like the rifles will be coming with me this summer! I also travel for work and drive by that area quite often, I will be looking into it the next time I am up that way. Thanks again for the info.

It's called Land-0-Lakes Gun Club. Not even sure if it's open anymore and it's only 100yds. I live about 20 minutes from it and have not been there in years.
That Hydro range is the best bet for long range and free, but will be under a few feet of snow right now.

Yes! I just spoke to a friend of mine who lives in Cloyne, he said as long as we shoot spring/early summer, we will avoid most of the blue berry picking and hunting traffic so it should be quite safe. He has offered to go with me to do a recce once the snow melts enough to get in with trucks and/or quads. Will report back once I have more info.

I just live north of Cloyne, so let me know also when you plan to go early spring. Sounds like fun.
What are the snow levels like in the bush back there right now? I am just east of Napanee, our snow is just about gone, a bit more in the bush but certainly passable with a quad.

Almost two feet in most areas. You still need a snowmobile or quad with tracks. Hopefully in two weeks most of it will be gone.

Yea, unfortunately it's still snowing and winter is hanging in there this year. Last year at this time we had a fire ban.

An interesting vid on Lingham Lake Hydro Trail. The Jeep dudes call it "Hell's Trail". Apparently, many a Jeep 4x4 has been wrecked or submerged in water, but I can see some nice flat long range shooting if we don't go in that far.

Another Google map shot of the trail entrance on #41 Hwy at Story Lake. There is a sideroad you can also take to hit Ontario Hydro Rd. which runs the whole trail to #62 Hwy. Do a Google Map to zoom in.

Nice, I have property on Buckshot lake rd just south of Denbigh. I grew up exploring the land all through this area and got into 4x4ing because of fishing at Lingham lake. In the early 80s we'd go in there using an old Willies, I enjoyed to ride in and out more than the days spent fishing. The trails are tame through there now and everyone has a quad, but 40 years ago they were all ours.

It's not illegal as hunters shoot rifles in the same area all the time. Crown land is not owned by Hydro. I also have my own private range right under power lines. That's my private property in which I gave Hydro the right to access it for over 20yrs now. If there was problem I would have been told about it ages ago and I have the right to tell Hydro to remove their lines.
Truth is Ontario Hydro generally tip-toes around, just don't shoot their equipment on purpose.

I live just a few miles south of Buckshot Lake Rd. so drop in for a visit. It's all Jeep and quad trails now, you're right.
I was down looking at the Lingham Line entrance and found out the entrance at Story Lake is private property east and west. No public entrance there.
The only access is from Hunt Rd. and I've been invited by one of the landowners to find the property lines to avoid any problems in a few weeks.

sounds so exciting, Im building up my precision rifle and getting into long range shooting, there are just too much things to learn and really need a long distance to practise. Contacted the MNR and they said as long as I'm not hunting, and not appearing hunting(walking with loaded gun, camouflaged and so), target shooting is allowed on Crownland, and just be sure no one or animal is within range that might have chance to get hurt, make a proper backstop and the last thing to do is to load and shoot, also pick up every trash left on site, obeying this, is good to go. Above all, be safe and its all about.
