last years I started shooting 100m 200m and 300m with my Savage MkII .22lr.
I got addicted right away......

shooting my Cz527 in .223 @ 100m is no fun anymore ( like a Ferrari in first gear....)

I've tried to get the most accuracy out of my .22lr using cheap bullet like Winchester target... no Lapua or RSW. I shoot .22lr because it's cheap!!;)

it is important to stay under speed of sound for long range accuracy....

here a pic of 5 shot at 200m (220y). with a mild wind.

I needed a 20moa picatiny rail to have enough elevation with my Bushnell trophy 6-18x40mm....I still need more for 300m....( will probably add a shim.....)

my rifle as now change a bit, I got an adjustable cheek rest, adjusted butt pad. the action and the thicker part of the barrel are glass bedded and I put a additionnel bolt in the recoil lug.

I didn't try it with the mods so far but I believe I can do better than the picture.

if you shoot long distance with your .22lr, please share your experience....with pics if possible.

IMPORTANT: if you shoot gopher at 400y with old Cooey and iron sight......START YOUR OWN TREAD.....

I use my 10-22 target and a balistic program you can get the Ballistic Co. from most manufactures takes 2 full revolutions on my turret to hit clay pidgeons at 200 yrds. I like to put them standing in a snow bank that way you can make adjustments as I can see the holes in the snow .I use a bsa scope the turrets are a definite help to shoot long range never tried paper just clay pidgeons and some steel swinging plates we have at the farm.its the top gun in the pic

Great shooting. I have a BRNO model #4 that I use as my 200 yard gun. Although I haven't got it out in over a year.:(

Do you use a spirit level when you shoot? Cant will affect the 22lr very much at 200 yards and beyond. You may find it helps. This is the last pic of what I shot at 200yrds. It's a six inch frying pan, and no I didn't hit it every time. But then I wasn't using an old Cooey with iron sights.;)

i cannot wait to see what my Mossberg 144lsb will do at 200+yards. heavy 27 inch barrel and 6x24 scope. Did absolutely under 1 inch at 100. The bullet drop at 300 yards would be over 6 feet....don't think I will try gophers at that distance no matter how many shims i can put under the mount.

a spirit level, is probably a good idea, maybe I should try that. do you have an idea what kind of error you can get for every degree of cant....I would like to know a little more about it!

nice shooting Clobbersauras!!!!!

thanks

That is very nice! the farthest I have taken my 10/22 out to was 200 hards, sights were set at 100 so I was aiming slightly higher at a target 1x1 foot, wasnt pre meditated so alteration were not made. Keep up the good work!

IIRC from my limited long range tests with my Remington 597, 200 meters needed in the neighborhood of 48-56"elevation and near 300 meters was something rediculous.....13-14 feet over.

thats pretty close, if my memory is good.

I know at 200m I got about 6 or 7 feet and from 100m to 200m I need to go up 90 clics ( 30moa)

Funny coincidence but IIRC, but 308 Winchester, needs pretty much the same 30ish MOA, to connect @1000 yards.

hhhmm.....

some military people use .22lr to simulate 800y or 1000y .308 shooting, the wind drift is suppose to be similar to.......

Rimfires are surprisingly effective quite a bit farther out than many realize. I was shooting my 40X Remington 22 Rimfire at 200 Meters last year, and shot two consecutive groups under 1" at 200 meters. The third group was over 1", but well under 2" Here are some pics....the squares are ½" Regards, Eagleye

You know, I really don't know. Though I know cant is a bad thing when it comes to any long range shooting. The spirit level I used was quite simple. It was actually a key chain! I took the chain part off and rested the level on top of the elevation knob. It would stay on for two or three shots until recoil knocked it off.

Seemed to help me...here's a pic of the set up. I've since switched the bipod to a Harris type.

They are some impressive signatures Eagleye ! I never cease to be amazed how consistent a good RF and its favourite ammo can be.

If you want to see how cant will move the POI, move the legs on your Harris bipod from both the same, to extending the right, and then extend the left with the right leg retracted. Once the range is extended you will be off the paper so you might want to work at 50. Just make certain your rifle does not tip over.

Have a look at this article, he does some real life experiments and goes into the math of calculating cant error. It's an interesting read:
