Long Slide 1911?

I had one once that was a custom off an original Colt 1911.

Being a traditional 1911 guy I just couldn't get used to it, so off it went.

NAA.

I was lucky to buy a brand new STI Targetmaster 9mm at deeply discounted price one year and half ago. I don’t shoot it very often but I don’t think I will let it go. The slide is silk smooth and tight. It’s for target shooting but the long slide makes it inappropriate for competition.

I am a lifelong 1911 fan.

Longslide 1911s are awesome.

I have a Springfield Armory Longslide in 45acp and a Para Longslide in 10mm.
I also have a Para P1640sw that I mounted a Wichita alongside comp on...simulates the weight/balance of a alongside and is ported.

Obviously they are a lil slower from holster, and likely not eligible for most of the Gamey competitions.

They are a thing of beauty, fun to shoot.
Of course here in Canada we are strictly ventilating cardboard so the extra velocity is of no consequence or benefit.

Alternate question, how long is too long? I was curious about 7.5 or 8"

6” is mainly what you’ll find and I think the sweet spot. As mentioned the classic ‘Terminator’ longslide is the AMT with a 7” . They are out there but rarer and not the quality of newer builds.

LAR Grizzly made an 8” and a 10” but those are extremely rare and made in 45 win mag.

I was quite interested in the SAM Longslide but never noticed any first hand reviews. It looked cool, but I don't think Wolverine still lists them, and I've never seen one on the EE.

Talked to STI at SHOT, they will make Target Masters for you, just not a regular catalogue stocking item. You just need to order one.
