Long slide glocks yea or nae? G21 vs G41

Hi CGN,

What is the general consensus on the longslide glocks. I'm debating adding my first Glock to my collection and I like the G41 on paper and in theory, but I'd like to know if it delivers in your hand.

The slide is longer and lighter. This should be a positive. But they didnt replace the G21 they added to the line up with the G41 it. Appreciate any feedback to help me decide.
 
Big "Yea" from me.

Longer sight plane, better trigger. I had both a 34 and a 17. It's hard to believe such small differences could have added up to so much of a difference.
 
I own a very nice Glock 17. I wanted the Glock 34 but didnt want to buy a whole new gun..... The nice people at Lone Wolf started making after market Glock style slides & barrels.

Sitting atop my Glock 17 frame is a Lone Wolf S/S G34 length slide with a Lone Wof conventional lands & grooves barrel. Fibre optic front sight. Superb!
 
while your talking 21vs41 i cant weigh in, but i do have a 40 which is the same as the 41 just in 10mm, and i love it!

compared to my 17 or my 19's the 40 is just crazy huge for a pistol.
i of course had to go overboard and put a longer barrel on mine with a comp because i wanted to go all out.

one thing i found though is that i needed to upgrade the sights on it.
that longer sight radius and those stock glock sights was just a bad combo.
nothing worse then trying to see that little nub of a front sight down that long slide.

i put on some suppressor height sights and totally love them.

the gun itself is bigger as well, im not 100% sure about the 41 but the 40 is bigger and thicker, everything is made to a bigger scale.

* Opp's never mind, i just went and looked them up, the 40 is way bigger than the 41 in length and weight.
 
So I had the same dilemma. I looked at what I was using the pistol for. I use it for IDPA and potentially 3 gun. I held both guns and instantly knew that the 41 was a better fit for me. The 21 felt top heavy and too blocky. The 41 felt right instantly. You need to go handle them both and decide for yourself. Just get ready for the ammo cost, it adds up!
 
Just picked up a G34 about a month ago, going to use it for 2-3 gun this year and IDPA perhaps( may stick with the 19 for IDPA)
So far I am liking it a lot, just put some Warren Tactical sights on it, so I will see how it goes but I think it's a keeper
 
Yup same as edgy here I just picked up a G34 recently to mate up with my FX-9 for 2 gun. It doesn’t cycle my light loads yet so I think some breaking in is in order. Liking the longer slide though. Same proportions as our FNS9LS.
 
I've read a few posts in other forums about the longslides having issues with +p ammo. Something about the lighter slide cycling too fast for the trigger reset to engage. This a real thing?

FYI I plan on replacing the barrel with a lone wolf for lead boolits. Just can't decide between 41 or 21.

Not possible for the slide to "cycle too fast for the trigger reset to engage" as the trigger is reset on reward movement of the slide.

Long slides offer nothing over the others. Either you can shoot or you can't.
 
Kiddx would have said it just like that. Others would chime in with the “ longer site radius “ argument and the fact that the longer slides are favoured by the top competition shooters over the short slides but hey , what the hell do they all know eh?
 
Given the trend of adding a red dots to Semi-auto hand guns , makes you wonder if for a hunting handgun Lone Wolf night be brining back their 9” barrels for the 20 and 21. (You don’t need the sight radius with a red dot / reflex sight afterall)
 
I've read that longslides are flippier, due to the increased leverage by a longer barrel and a lighter slide. I would think that negates the advantage of a longer slide. Also a 1" extention isnt much when talking handgun lengths. I generally like longer barrels for extra velocity but 45 powder is all spent early on.

I think I'm leaning to a G21, but I will paw them both and let feel make the final decision.

Seems there is no consensus.

Just because something is trendy doesn't mean it's gospel. I have not experienced a gain in performance from a long slide pistol and I've never seen anyone else demonstrate an appreciable gain with one. Extra length, weight and cost for no gain..

small correction for at least the 21/41 the long slide 41 is lighter. The slide and barrel walls are considerably thinner.

Trendy ....lol. Just because you haven’t experienced a gain in performance doesn’t mean there isn’t one to be had.

Does this answer the right question? Does a longer sight radius reduce sight misalignment? The important part of your post is not the arc at a certain distance. That is obvious physics and the appealing theory.

The question is "Does a longer sight radius reduce the occurance or degree of sight misalignment?" You post speak of a 1/16th error. Does a longer slide cause people to reduce their average misalignment?

For example if my sight misalignment is caused by poor trigger control when squeezing, my sight radius will have no impact. The gun to target misalignment is the same. If however the longer sight radius helps me turn a 1/8 mis alignment into a 1/16 then gigitygigitygoo.

If you get both of them in hand, I'll be shocked if you get a 21.
