Long term ATT question

Sorry if this has been rehashed over and over, tried a search but couldn't turn anything up so I'm guessing I'm not wording it right.

So, I've got a long term ATT I received a couple years ago when I owned a revolver, valid until next year. Sold the pistol, and haven't thought much about it since. Bought a Sig last week as the short gun itch has struck again, and forgetting that I even had my long term ATT, I applied for and got a temporary ATT to pick up the pistol at Cabelas and bring it home. Found the long term ATT in my range bag yesterday and it was like "Oh Yeah, forgot about this".

So, that's the history. Now the question. It's probably a stupid one, so bear with me. Is a long term ATT good for picking up newly purchased pistols and transporting them home or do you need a temporary ATT each and every time regardless of already having a long term one? My ATT lists ranges and gunsmiths in Alberta, as well as border crossings. No mention of a gun store. Then again, a lot of gun stores do basic gunsmithing in store, so would that qualify? Pardon my ignorance, I've read what I can find but hard to find all of the answers sometimes.

LT (Long term) ATT means just that to and from your range and Gunsmiths.. The ST or temporary (Short term) ATT is needed if you pick up from Dealer or Post Office if not sent directly to your house.

To be clear, I'm NOT looking for an end-around here. Last thing I want to do is mess around and push the envelope. Just curious about the legality of it, and if what I perceived as a gray area has been addressed before.

Yeah, it's been addressed before and you did the correct thing as far as the law is concerned.

Of course, as the old saying goes, the law is an ass.

Don't trust the internet. Read the Firearms Act and phone the CFC. These things should have been covered in your licence course.

I'm not sure when you took your licence course, but mine was long enough ago that I actually don't remember the entire course verbatim. If you can, good for you. While I appreciate your attempt at advice such as it is, I'm old enough to decide which questions I choose to pose to the public and also to decide how much weight I put on the responses I receive.

I don't think Scott Bear was trying to belittle you or be a smart ass. I believe he had your best interest in mind, besides if your caught committing a firearms no/no the "some guy one the internet says it's ok" defence won't fly.

Perhaps I overreacted. I just see these posts regularly and they usually strike me as condescending. It might just be in our nature to assume the worst case scenario, and that the question was posted by a dolt. You see it often with people asking about pet loads. There is always one reply from someone who has made the assumption that the OP is a moron, and offers up the advice not to try the load as offered without working it up for their particular rifle. The advice isn't offered maliciously, and really is meant to be helpful, however it usually strikes me as insulting. Why assume the worst of the OP? I tend to approach everyone with the assumption that they have common sense, until they prove me wrong, rather than assume the worst. Just my view, that and two bits used to buy a candy bar.

hopefully this nonsense with atts will be rectified soon. i pray...
why the long term doesn't cover gunstores is beyond me, where else would you buy a brand new gun from... the cfo concept is filled with idiocy that are trying to find a reason for their salaries.

Hi guys,

Do you know how long it takes to an LTATT to be issued in Ontario? I joined a gun club and still waiting for the LTATT.
Have anyone applied (the club) for one lately?

Thanks,

Sid
