Long term (or super long term) Norinco 1911 reviews?

Anyone have their Norinco 1911 for a really long time and put a lot of rounds through it? How's it holding up? I have approx. 2500 rounds through mine and I've pretty much never had an issue that wasn't the fault of my early reloading skills (or lack thereof).

I love my 1911, and would love to hear from others with 2000+ rounds through theirs (and more!!)...

I put about 350 rds thru mine this weekend. Saw stovepipes, double feeds, stuck casings.... in the other guns there :D Shoots semi wad cutters, lead round nose, ball, gobbles it all up.

Mine purred like a kitten, out shot the hell out of me. Just need to put some weak loktite on the magazine release button and grip screws. They were working loose. I notice the mag button at the range but when I got home I could believe how loose the grips were :eek:

One thing about my Norinco Sport - one grip screw has a thinner slot than the other three. Weird eh?

I think I'd like some better sights on it too. But for $350 the gun works.
 
I've had mine for a year and a half so far. It doesn't like 185's. That's about it, no other probs. Don't get to shoot a lot though so only a few hundred rounds through it. My resolution is to put 5k through it over the summer and get really proficient in the platform.
 
I've had my govt model for 10 years now and have well over 8k through it, I lost count. The mainspring was weak and allowed the grip safety to flop a bit so replaced it with a Wollf spring (changed all the springs at the same time). I also blasted it and re-parked it with the Radocy kit as the finish was thin.

After about 2k the slide stop pin broke but that was due to me putting in a longer barrel link to tighten it up. The oem mags that came with mine work problem free and I have shot all different bullet types with no problem. I had it tuned by by Armco in 06 and used it in a few IPSC matches and was very happy with it.

It cost me $225 or $250 new (have to dig up the bill) and I do not regret the purchase. Mind you the are also quite a few people that had crappy experiences with theirs.

I had an untouched commander (the newer style with square trigger guard) and it hated 200gr SWC ammo, would hardly ever get through a mag without a jam. It was 100% with 230gr FMJ RN, though. I sold it and bought an Armco tuned 5" Norc 1911 and am much happier with it. Not quite 100% with the SWC yet, but close and getting better as I fine tune my reloads to the OAL it likes and it breaks in.

Three of mine are nickle plated, one is blued!
 
I've had my NP29 for awhile now...the problems I've had are trying to fit aftermarket parts to this gun...(firing pin, extractor, trying to find a bushing for that barrel) stuff like that...I replaced all the springs with a Wilson set...that helped out with things alot...but for the price I can "tinker"....
 
I bought a Norinco 1911 45 about 15 years ago. I used it for IPSC for a couple of years and then just for general shooting. I never kept track of how many rounds it has through it but it must be at least 10,000.
When I bought it I put a Wilson sear & hammer in it to improve the trigger pull. Then later a decent set of sights.
Other than that, it is the way I bought it.Nothing has broken, it keeps chugging along & is very accurate.

Around 2k rounds through mine in a year and a half with one fail to feed that was probably my fault (new to reloading). Mix of moderate to stout loads with 230gr LRN and 200gr LSWC. I use Wilson Shok Buffs. I'm worried about protecting that delicate frame.:p

I've swapped out a few parts on mine (recoil spring, guide rod, plug, sear spring, slide stop, stocks), but none of the changes were necessary. I couldn't be happier with it. And I don't have to worry about holster wear!!
 
cant go wrong with the price, but i didnt like the finish on it. too rough, and when practising dry fire rack and draw from the holster the rough edges ripped up my gloves. other than that, no real complaints except for crappy irons. A good dehorning, grips and iron sight swap and you'd have a decent pistol.
 
The two that I have owned (Govt and Commander) saw 7000 and 5000 rounds respectively. They were both in great shape when I sold them.
