Hey CGN.
I felt like I should share my experience today.
I thought that I might enjoy the May long weekend by putting off some yard work and instead, shooting my Sig 1911-22, and Taurus PT92s at my local outdoor range here in NS.
Another member showed up with a large case. He said he was there to try out his new 1911-22 as well. We began to plink away side by side. We had the range to ourselves and it was a beautiful day for it. 24deg. No wind and the blackflys were non existent.
After a few mags down range. We stopped to chat during a target change. While we were talking, I noticed he had a blue and white ammo box in his kit and immediately recognized it. "Are you here with a FiveseveN?" I said. He grinned and happily dug it out of his case. "Yep" he said casually.
I tried not to freak out, but I could tell I was grinning ear to ear. He brandished the FDE polymer and black pistol with multiple magazines and boxes of ammo to feed the beast. "Wanna try it?" He asked.
I couldn't say "hell yes" quick enough!
After a quick run down of the pistols mechanics, I was sending rounds down range. I am amazed at how light this thing really is. It's stippled grip helping me maintain a secure hold and it's surprisingly meek recoil and snappy cycling helped to keep it on target for quick follow up shots. It flung the necked cases 10-15 feet to our right as I emptied a few magazines down range.
The holes in our targets were not much larger than the .22 we started with, however the splatter targets showed much more of an impact where the polymer ballistic tipped FN round penetrated the target and also sent the dirt of the backstop flying.
The few 10 round magazines flew by and the firearm functioned flawlessly.
When I cleared the firearm and returned it to its rightful owner, I knew I was hooked and immediately thought about seeking one out here on CGN. However at $2000 retail and $40/box of ammo , it may be slightly outside my current budget.
When he fired the FN in the lane next to me , I could feel the wave of pressure on my face and I think I could hear a "zip" sound and the rounds went down range. Might have something to do with the 40grn projectile flying out at over 2000 fps!!
I wanna say many thanks to Al for letting me try his FN and his P226 conversion kit out. (What a nice trigger that piece has) I had a blast out there today, and caught a little heck from the "war minister" for spending almost 4 hours out there when I said I'd be back in 2... But all in all; totally worth it!!
Just a little rant , but I wanted to share this and maybe if MR. FiveseveN sees this, please add me as a friend and I would be happy to join you on the range again any day, but this time let me bring the ammo!
Cheers!
