OK..well, it's almost embarrassing how long I've had this rifle without shooting it...but like most things that are rushed in my life, I didn't want this process to be one of them. So, I snuck off to my buddy's farm yesterday with almost every type of ammo I had on hand and did some load testing. :) Conditions weren't perfect (slight wind gusts) but the goal was to really narrow down what the gun likes, then the plan is to concentrate on the winners on subsequent outings. Won't post any target photos at this point, but if you have the exact same rifle, lets compare notes. :) Scope is one of the new Leopold Freedom FX 3-9 and I have to say...other than the super mushy-feeling W/E adjustments...I really like it! Reticle looked unnecessarily busy until I used it, no worries now that I have.

Best results (in order) were from;

Eley Action
Eley High Velocity HP
SK Standard

Showing promise..

Eley Club
Federal Champion

Shooting very well but I'm too cheap to feed it a diet of the stuff..

Laupua Center X
RWS-R50 (don't remember what it cost, but I rarely see the stuff around)

Sure like the one you sold me on my CZ452 Scout/Lux.
I wish a) Leupold would make them again and
b) there were other quality light rifles like this one, with shorter barrels.

Thanks guys...she's a sweetie. Sitting out there with all that ammo, that rifle, nothing on deck the rest of the day=my happy place. :)

Oh boy! What a nice rifle!
What seem to be its accuracy compared to your other standard-lenght barreled 452s?

Thanks wcat~I recently sold my BRNO 2E, and my only other CZ 22LR is also a 452..but a Varmint. I don't have nearly the same amount of time on this little American but I'd say due to the weight of the Varmint...I think it's a little easier to shoot well from heavy bags than this gun is. Not planning on using the American this way very much, but I will say it seems a little less forgiving when it comes to ammo it likes. I know that's a departure from the Varmint for sure. SO...how to define accuracy? lol I get your meaning though. I think it has great potential, and using the Eley Action...I was impressed. Some good groups with others too. I'll post the 50 yard target tonight. I would have included it but I was busy listing guns and a scope for sale...and going through the PMs that followed.

Anyhow, I like it even more than I thought I would...such a nice, light, handy rifle. Honestly, the plan is to pick the best 5 shooters and run them through my Waltz die...then retest. With my Varmint, that didn't hurt the accuracy of anything...and improved it on a couple.

Beautiful rifle! If it ever needs a new home let me know :)

lol..thanks Arseno.

lol..will do Arseno. We're just getting to know one another, so I'm not sure where the relationship is going. :)

Mmmhh wait!... Me and .22LRGUY are already tied up with a "Be-the-1st-to-know-when-you-sell". Rifle concerned is my CZ452 American in 17m2, Remember .22LRGUY? ;)

It would be fair to send back the elevator ahah!

Hey man~you're not supposed to mention that rifle. How do you think I find these nice guns~I have the inside scoop sometimes! :) I don't see this little 452 going anywhere soon, I'd like to see it on at least one gopher mission out west...but it might be too pretty for that. I'm still after a 452 in 17M2...then I'm hanging up my "search for 452s" hat.

No, I'm actually not..I'm trying to help someone else find a standard length American. :)

Interesting about the ammo; I have a 455 trainer and a 452 Ultra Lux and both of those rifles shoot better with CCI mini mags than with either Eley or Std Vel. The Trainer also shoots right on with CCI Stingers. It may be the longer barrels.

My 452 American and Lux both shoot better with CCI Mini Mags, as well.....

My varmint didn't love the Mini Mags, and this short American didn't dig them either. At least, the Troy Landry ones I had on hand to play with. lol I assume the gator-slaying ones are the same as all the others..? :)

Same ones I'm using; CT had them on sale a few weeks back so I grabbed them. Very consistent.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in". :) Went to pick-up a brick of the Eley "Action" and noticed more than a few Eley offerings I knew nothing about. Ruling out the top-shelf stuff like Tennex, I picked Eley "Subsonic Hollow" and Eley "Sport" to see how the 16" 452 likes them. I picked-up another box of the Action and HV HP stuff as well, so I'm ready for some more testing. Yeah...I sort of dig the process. :) Can't say I have any faith the new types will shoot better than the "Action" did, but I've never used either of these new Eley ones, so I'm stoked!
